Yes they will hold up. Just make sure they are ar500. I got a piece that was labeled as ar500 and shot it at 400 yards with my edge and it punched straight through it haha. Get ar500 or old cutting edges off of loader buckets or motor graders and you will be good to go.

It's not just about distance, but also how are you mounting it. If you let it swing freely, then it will take more than if you mounted it totally fixed.
One data point is that we setup my AR500 plate fixed at 50 yards and my AR15 put nice little dents in it, which you don't want for sure. I am not sure that a 338LM therefore at 100 yards would be OK, even if you mounted it swinging.

Shot today at 475 yards and didn't make the slightest dent! Used 250gr Sierra hpbt (2900 fps). This was 1/2" AR500.
Repaint when I got home and it's like new.

I suspect that the 235gr lathe-turned solids would easily punch most plates. Anyone know at what distance one could shoot AR500 with such solids without damage to the plate? Same question for solids in the .375 and .408 Chey Tac and .50 BMG AP.

Only thing that will hurt ar 500 3/8" to 1/2" is a full metal jacket. Bthp, amaxs, vlds, even game kings have not hurt any of mine. NO FULL METAL JACKETS

Dint own a .50 cal. But just you go own ahead and shoot it with an ar-15 fmj at 100 yards and you'll see real quick it will dent your steel. And btw was your ar500 sloped as opposed to straight vertically?

AR 500 should be fine, the grader blades are a different story. Broke a grader blade target at 850 yd. with 338LM 250 gr. @ 3000. Have broken many grader blades at 200 with .308. They are pretty tough but brittle when smacked hard.

Wow thats crazy. I havent shot our grader blade with my edge yet but my brother in law shot it with his 300RUM with 190 VLDs at 400 yards and nothing happened. I will test it with my edge when it gets back from manners.

Shooting 338 norma 1/4 AR500 becomes viable at 800-1000 yards.
3/8 AR500 is definitely gtg at 500 yards.
I don’t shoot steel any closer with that rifle but 1/2 is definitely ok at 100 yards.
400yds and over 3/8 ar400 will hold up to save money but if you plan on longevity I’d go ar500 3/8 is plenty to hold up for a long time for personal use
I have a few 3/8” AR500 targets and shot them at 100 yards with 300 grain Berger’s a lot... no issue. The only dent I ever got was with a 416 Barrett (solid Bullets) at 300 yards and it made a small dent. We stepped up to 1/2” and never had an issue with 416 and 50. Most of our stands let the target hang. But, we have one that it solid mounted and have not had an issue. But we only use it at 1000 yards.
