Gunsmithing 338 Lapua barrel

will a 338 Lapua barrel off a rem 700 fit
on a rem 700 reciever chambered in 300 W M
would the bolt be the same?

The bolt face is different, to much work to make it work

The bolt face would have to opened up to the Lapua dimensions and an M16 style extractor added. There is also some work done to the inside rear receiver for proper ejection. A new bolt can be purchased from PTG as well. The 338 Lapua is pushing the 700 design to it's limits. The factory MLR receivers are probably heat treated a little differently. If you're going to do a build, use an action like the Sturgeon 1581 XL that's made for that size cartridge.

ive got a 338 built on a 700 ultra mag action with a mlr take off barrel and it works ok, but im still saving for a surgeon action to build on, not being able to eject a loaded round without taking out the bolt is a hassle.
