338 lapua build

So I need some more "experienced" shooters thoughts. Building a 338 and would like to know what kind of barrel, barrel length and twist I should look at to shoot 1500yds+.


250gr or 300gr, any thoughts?

Bartlein,Krieger barrels...9.5-10 twist medium taper...26-28 inch.

What bullet are you going to be running? What powder are you wanting to burn?

bullet types depending on how far you want to shoot. Anything less than 1500 yards, there is not much difference in performance between the 250 scenars vs. 300 SMK. Beyond that, the 300 pills will outperform the 250 obviously. Keep in mind that the 300 will kick a little more.

Would vote for Bartlein barrel. Only problem is the long wait.

Hello everyone, I just signed up today and I am another .338LM fan I am also in the process of building a poormans 338LM.

About 6 weeks ago I received my DTA SRS in .338LM and then about 2 weeks ago finally got my 5X25X56 Premier scope.

Just now starting to find out how accurate this Gun/Caliber is!!

The rifle I am building is on a 1917 enfield action and a
Pac-Nor SS supermatch grade Med Palma 28" Those are the basics
I have already blue/printed the receiver and need to finish the rest. Including making my own muzzle break. I have access to a machine shop so that makes it possible. I call it my poormans 338LM because the enfield was given to me over 25 years ago it had a pitted bore and the person did not want it..

Anyone with prime loads for the .338 Lapua please give me some advice. So far Retumbo powder has worked the best with 250gr bullets. I do want to try the 300 grain bullets soon.
