I just got a 338 lapua and was wondering if i should get the vortex viper 6.5x20x50 or a 6x24x50 nikon. Which have a thinner crosshair?

Re: 338 lapua

Not discouraging your choices, but if I were going to be shooting a Lapua, I would drop the change on something a little more durable for handling recoil.

What 338 Lapua did you get?

Re: 338 lapua

What would you recommend. Also I posted a comment somewhere else talking about the bases. The base screws are bigger than regular 700 base screws so where do I get bases?

Re: 338 lapua

I may have a Mark 4 4.5-14 Ill. TMR going up for sale soon. Its SFP but unless your ranging with your reticle, or doing alot of hold over/under work under stress, you should have no issues. I frankly like the scope alot. Its on a 338 Lapua I've got for sale in a package deal at the moment, but unless someone figures out what a killer deal I've offered, I'll break the whole deal up and part it out, including scope.

BTW: its got thin cross hairs and in the middle of the reticle, they do not touch. I've found that advantageous for bug hole group shooting at 100 yards and small targets further out, such as rats and prairie dogs and such.

We use the 6.5-20x50 Viper on 50bmg's on a pretty regular basis. IMO that scope could very possibly be the best scope out there in the under $500 catagory and rivals scopes that cost much more. We very rarely have any of these in for warranty work, but they do ,of course, come with the "if you arent happy we arent happy" Vortex VIP warranty. Feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions.
