Am going to build a 338LM and am wanting to use a surgeon 1581. Any suggestions or reasons I should look elsewhere?

lots of other great actions, but you have a great one there, no reason for a different one.

Thats the action I chose for mine. What part of the state are you in?... If you're fairly close, drop by and check out mine.

Thanks, that was the info I was looking for,like the A-5 have one on a 6.5-284 not sure if I will use a A5 or A4 on it

I have one built on a Surgeon sitting in an A5. Love it as well. The only thing I would think about next time is maybe running CIP length bottom metal. I had mine built a few years ago before CIP bottom metal were easily availble like they are today. But I don't have problems running the shorter COAL. Hope this helps a little.

I have one built on a Surgeon sitting in an A5. Love it as well. The only thing I would think about next time is maybe running CIP length bottom metal. I had mine built a few years ago before CIP bottom metal were easily availble like they are today. But I don't have problems running the shorter COAL. Hope this helps a little.

I have a 1581xl repeater at the smith's right now. going in a manners t4. only downside is the price but worth it!

Some buddies and I are putting 4 rifles together. 3 in .338 LM and 1 .300 WinMag. We were going to go with Stiller but pulled the trigger on the Surgeon. I think you will be happy with your choice.

Kirby Allen designed these specifically for the 338 Lapua and his wildcats based on it. Look over on LRH and you can find all the info on them. If I was building a Lapua today this is the action I would use.
