Re: 338 LM brass No Headstamp

Actually you have original 338/416 Sniper brass. This was made by both BELL brass and Lapua.

Welcome to the club of having the original brass from the AMAC/RAP Model 300 rifle and ammo contract.

Brief history - mid 80's Research Armament Prototype started a program to meet a US Mil request - the "AMAC 50" and the 338/416. Hornady was contracted for the first projos and BELL produced the brass, RAP switched to LAPUA for the 250K round production ammuntion run. What you have is more than like the Lapua lot. Good but a bit soft compared to today's brass. If it has been fired, the headspace did vary between the 338/416 to the CIP standards on the LAPUA ...

Re: 338 LM brass No Headstamp

No the contract specified no markings on brass or rifles - the rifles in the system had assembly # but no other. The few (less than 10) in civ hands were marked per ATF requirements.

Original loads were with IMR 7828 and 250gr lock base Lapuas

Re: 338 LM brass No Headstamp

try weighing the brass that might help find an orign. i load 250 scenars with 97 gr retumbo, fed 215's, lapua brass and they push at 2905 with .562 group or less. also 250 lock base 98gr retumbo, fed 215's, lapua brass, they were goin 2899 and best group was.245 out of 700P w/26in barrel including the brake. those speeds were with the bullets tight against the lands so i pulled them back to 3.624 for the lock base and 3.636 for the scenars that is .001 off the lands so they will be a little faster. hope that helps. i just got AIC chassis for that 700P .338 Lapua if anyone is interested in the factory H.S. stock and Accurate Mag trigger gaurd and magazine.
