I am loading for my 338 Federal Tikka T3 (22" barrel, 1:10") twist and, naturally, I feel compelled to develop a subsonic load.
The nice folks at Outlaw State Bullets are planning on making a 338 variant of their segmented rebated rim jacketed hollow point and have asked my opinion on what the weight (and therefor the length) of the bullet should be. I am flattered, believe me (no one asks my opinion on anything).
I have suggested a 300 grain bullet which should come out at about 1.57" by my rough calculation and will be just this side of stable in my gun.
So, here's the question...for all you 338 Lapua types out there, what is your normal twist rate and would you prefer an even heavier bullet if you could have one with really good terminal performance characteristics in a subsonic platform?
