Suppressors 338 Ultra for hunting

For those who use the 338 Ultra in the field, is the size and weight a legitimate gripe ? I have a 9" 30 cal can due out of jail anytime and don't need two of the same basic configuration. I don't have a 338 rifle at this point but the future is wide open.

Will be used on a 7 RM and 300 WM for a pile of LR steel to a mile and Idaho hunting , not blinds or stands .

Used a 338 WM In Idaho for 10 years. Ultra Mag may be overkill, just my opinion. I wasn’t trying to shoot anything past 400 yards.

I don't have mine out of jail yet. Just in handling it, the thing is surprisingly light. But it's still about 40% heavier than my Ultra 9. Now, whether you're sensitive enough to notice a 5 oz difference, I'm probably not.

My first can was a 6.5 Ultra 9 for my Tikka 6.5. Then I somewhat stumbled in to a great shooting Fierce 7MM RM that I wanted to suppress as well. So I bought a 30 cal Ultra 7. Then I decided I wanted a 300 Norma MPR. Researching there indicated I would probably want the 338 Ultra can even though the 30 cal Ultra 7 was rated for the 30NM, just for more reduction performance.

What did I learn from this - get the bigger caliber can, better than limiting your options.

I hunt with the 338 Ultra without issue, and my hunting rifles have 28" barrels. For open country hunting, it doesn't bother me one bit. I also have an Ultra 9; the difference in length/weight between the 9 and 338 in the field is negligible. Hunting with a can is just a matter of perspective. If you accept your gun is going to be long, then you just deal with it accordingly. The awesome suppression level with the 338 Ultra is more than worth the added length and weight.
