The 358 win is a forgotten but very very effective round. You can hunt whitetail deer to big ass bears. It a shame more isnt done to promote such a great round.

I HAD ONE BUILT ABOUT8 YEARS AGO WHEN i was out west. Didnt kill anything with it for 2 years and almost sold it. Then I saw how awesome the 358 win is when I hammered a whitetail with it and then shot through some pine branches and smacked another one. It left a lasting impression on me. The 358 is the go to gun for woods hunting

I’ve always thoughts weird that there were so many rifles chambered in .35 Whelen but so little for 358 win. I think all of the .35s suffer from lack of variety in off the shelf Ammo, but I bet if you “Ackley improved” the case and reintroduced it as the 9.1 creedmoor with some 200 grain supers and 400 grain subsonic expanding Lehigh pills you could have a real market edge, especially if you market it in large frame AR.

Occasionally I toy around with the idea of a .358 Yeti as a large frame AR hog gun.

I still haven't sold myself on the necessity of it yet though.

Nothing wrong with big holes.

Had a 358 BLR as a go to thick woods rifle for a lot of years. Killed many nice whitetails with it. Winchester made a 200 grain silvertip load that kept me from ever buying dies and reloading for it. Sold it to a nephew a few years back. told him if he ever is going to sell it, he better call me first.

Nice collection!
I got to shoot one of the Ruger Americans. Kinda wish I hadnt passed it up. It badly needed a brake but was a great truck gun. The AR 358 is high on my wishlist.
I posted some extra bullets in the classifieds if anyone has interest.

Any 35 cal folks out there? I shoot a Win model 70 custom 358 win, wondering if there are any old school hunters here?
Still have my first deer rifle and still hunt with it on occasion, a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington.
Also had a Remington 700 Classic in .35 Whelen but sold it years ago, regrettably.
As for old school goes:

My 336 in .35 Remington. An older pre-safety.
I worked the whole summer of 1983 chucking watermelons and pulling weeds to save up the $$ to buy it. IIRC, paid $175 for it. Lot of money back then for a 15 yo.
Looked up the DOM once, I believe it was 1977.

I had a surplus Mauser .358 Winchester in the late 60’s-1980 era. Built by a friend. Douglass 22” heavy barrel, 1.5-5 Bushnell scope. Timney trigger. Had a full length stock glass bedded all the way. Oddly it was stunningly accurate. One hole groups. Deadly on game. Nothing hit ever moved out of its tracks.

It was over 11# . That was a hell of a load for a 140# kid who walked miles every day.

Point of impact did not change in 15 years of hunting. Mostly used 220 grain Spear FN bullet but anything from 180-250 shot into same group at 200 yards. Remarkable rifle.

Newest one on it's way to my FFL, minus the optics.

Winchester pre-64 Winchester 358 Winchester. Built by John Hofmiester, 22" #3 Douglas XX barrel 12 twist. Action and bolt trued. Action has the proper short action bolt stop and magazine parts. McMillan Compact stock pillar bedded. Winchester trigger. Williams trigger guard.
