So, I have an AR10 in 308, it has been a very long term build, currently it has a 30mm Warren mount sitting on it (I may still use this for a scope later when I build a 6.5 upper I will put cheaper glass on the 308)

But I bought a MK5 HD 5-25x56, got a screaming deal couldn't pass it up.... So now I need to pick out a 35mm mount.

Criteria I dont want to lap so a one peice, it will have to be able to go with this glass when I hopefully get to ultra long range with a creedmore upper or other caliber so ya slope built in possibly....

This is my learning rifle for LR I choose to go Mil/Mil not sure how a 20moa base would work with that....

Advice appreciated.

You don't have to lap scope rings.

ARC M10 come in 35mm and the rings I usually recommend. Great design, great quality, super simple to install, and a reasonable price.

If you what a one piece mount, Spuhr are great, but it will be about double the cost of the M10's. They also come in 35mm.

Wow Spuhr looks rock solid and priced to match.

As far as laping I was taught that when mounting rings for precision shooting you needed to first check with the ... point tools (for getting the name) and then lap and recheck until the points are aligned. But with a one peice it was not needed because they will stay aligned as it's all one peice.

But that was like I said just what I was taught a few years back, haven't researched it just decided to buy one peices to avoid it lol.

If you want QD, Bobro or GDI.

You don't have to lap any high quality CNC machined ring set or one piece mount any longer.

My 5-25 and 7-35 mark 5s are both in vortex rings no need for a one piece unless it’s just what you want.

I put my mark 5 in leupolds backcountry rings on 2 piece weaver bases (my rail was backordered). Had to adjust the elevation a few clicks and the windage 3 clicks from the new in box settings. Never bothered bore sighting.

I'd say lapping isn't needed.

The key is alignment. Let the scope body draw the rings into alignment on the base before they're torqued down, and they won't want to move.
Snug, just barely snug the rings to the rail.
Drop your scope in and snug the rings down to the scope body.
Level the scope, snug the rings some more.
Loosen the rings from the rail and now torque them to the rail.
Torque the rings to the scope.
Double check level.

I've never, ever lapped a set of rings and I've never, ever had a scope slip. One of those things that isn't necessary but someone published an article in a magazine 50 years ago so those who are into precision think everything needs to be a micron level fit. I have seen more than one person lap them too far and they wouldn't grip anymore.

What's even more impressive about my never having issues with rings? I use cheap weaver tacticals on most of my rifles. $35 rings with no lapping and no slipping, no gross misalignment, no maxed out windage, etc. They're not pretty, they're not light, they may occasionally have a wrong screw.... but they still work just fine.

Does Spuhr make a great mount? Hell yes! Do I NEED the features and the price tag they bring? Nope. While they are badass, they're not NEEDED.

i'm using a bobro engineering dual lever mount on my .308 and so far it has be great and held zero very well after taking it off and putting it back on several times. not particularly cheap but less that a spur mount i think,

Well the votex rings look nice but dont fit an ar10 the scope rubs on the rail. Waiste of time and money. I bought the 1.26 which was the tallest I saw offered.

For the time being it will live on the 308 upper until I build a 6.5 then it will live on that upper. I was wanting to stay under 200 220 ish, but looks like the newer generation of mounts and rings are more then they were 5 years ago... oh well on to the next attempt.

I bought a 35MM ADM Mount for my MK V. I had it on my AR10 and then moved it to my Fix. I have 3 others in 30mm and have never had a problem with them. The other nice thing is that ADM will sell separate ring portions if you want to adapt the mount to other scope tube diameters.

here is the bobro dual lever.
more than your budget, it keeps zero very well for a QD and you could use the same great scope on more than one rifle without too much hassle.

I wouldn't recommend rings alone on a flattop, can be done but a mount would be better, plus with the mount you can get a canted mount which will help if you plan on going really far out. Outside of that I'd recommend looking at a Badger 22 MOA riser, it's just under a 1/2" high and with 1" or so rings is just about ideal, the nice thing about this setup is you can remove the scope off the riser and put it on another rig - you'll have to re-zero of course but is flexible for that. Here's a pic of the Badger with a set of ERA-TAC QD rings

Well, I looked at a lot of the ones both mentioned here and that I found, the mk6 and several others have bolts or nuts that stick out and that just offends me (half kidding) the AAD was out of stock and closed for the day and me as an American I suffer from want it now syndrome.

I have had QRs on red dots and holos before like them there but for this application it's not getting moved about and the temptation to take it off would cause a lot of rezeroing.... I know the better companies guarantee 1/4 moa on remounts but it all adds up. Then I got frustrated...

So I called Mile high and ordered a cantilever 20moa Spuhr mount... blew the budget.... none of you are allowed to tell my wife!

Thank you all for the help.
