375 Cheytac Barrel Life

Got a quote on a Bartlein Mod BB for my 375 this AM. 1.620 x 8 inches (for DT HTI) then straight taper to 1.15" at 37" for finish length of 36" at my gunsmith Eric Smith ES Tactical. $1052.50 plus shipping; lead time ~6 months.

That's about 68% more than my Lilja of the same profile ($655 shipped) but it it lasts 50% longer it will come out in the wash considering smithing fees and new load development. If I can find something to sell or sneak it by the wife, I'm going to go for it.

I would like to hear others' experiences with this new barrel steel and 375 CT if it has not already been documented.

Several factors....

Rate of fire? (How hot you get the barrel)
Type of powder being used?
How hot the load is?
Type of bullets being fired ( yes type of bullets can affect barrel life)
Type of bullets being fired also affects accuracy.
Accuracy requirement?
How is it being cleaned and how often is it being cleaned?

A lot of variables to contend with!

Thanks, Frank. I seem to remember seeing you write something on the Hide about cleaning a few years ago, but I'm not sure. I've read quite a few opinions on break-in and cleaning since the 60's. Over the last few years I've shot more and cleaned less and it's worked better than the way I grew up, which was all about daily cleaning and lubing after each shooting. I read the new Litz book and the cleaning advice there but would be interested in anything you have to say on the subject.

My BB is looking noticeably better than my previous barrel with the same round count. That’s the best I can give.
