I posted this over on the Creedmoor forum too, but I thought I'd post it here and do some shameless promoting for the matches at American International Marksmanship Academy down in Blakely Georgia. http://www.marksmanshipacademy.com/ Stan Ellis runs a fantastic match and the range at AIM is flat out amazing. I can't wait to shoot at some of the other ranges they offer... like their 2400 yard UKD range!
Took a couple buddies down to shoot the 3x600 match this past Sunday. We all shot f-class Open and had a great time. My factory Savage LRP in 6.5CM and I shot a 577-18x which was good enough for the win. I shot my homemade brass converted from .243win loaded with 139gr Lapua Scenars on top of 41.0gr of H4350. I guess my converted brass works nicely. This was my first time shooting it after fireforming. There were only 8 people shooting f-class so they ended up grouping FT/R and Open together. My buddy from the AMU secured 2nd with a Tubb gun in .260 and my other buddy had a great time despite shooting a hunting rifle topped with a 3-9 power scope.
Wind was switching 10-12mph with some 15mph gusts. I made all my wind calls based on mirage and it payed off in the end. I caught some wind switches that a lot of other folks missed. Looking forward to next month's 3x1000.
If any of you 'Bama, Georgia or Florida guys are looking for a place to shoot some f-class this is a great facility.
