ive searched but had no luck getting a good answer. anyway, i was looking at cmp's website and they have the U.S.M.C 40x receivers for sale for 275. theyre barreled but with no trigger or bolt. so my question is...where do i find a bolt and also, what has to be done to it to make it work in the receiver i get? is there a headspace that has to be set with it? im new to the 40x world and just want to learn what i might be getting into before i lay down the money.

Re: 40x bolt question

PTG makes a replacement. I think $199. It needs to have headspace checked. Other parts that are missing can be purchased from Remington or numrich gun parts

Re: 40x bolt question

Don't waste your time with the CMP. I just completed my order for an H&R M12 but my 40XHB barreled action and my kimber 82g rifle did not make it because they were all sold out already. The CMP asked me if I wanted to replace my order with anythingelse and I requested a 40X USMC barreled action and they told me the website has not been updated in a long time and that the USMC barreled actions were also all sold out. If you still want a PTG bolt I have one that I am not using anymore since I can not get a barreled action anymore. Mine is actually threaded for aftermarket bolt knobs and already has a round bolt knob installed. I believe all this was done in-house by PTG.

Re: 40x bolt question

I'm glad PT&G is offering the replacement bolt.

Maybe my experience with the "drop in" PT&G bolt was the exception? Gunsmith had to do some mods to it to get it to function properly.

Re: 40x bolt question

sort of on the same subject, once you get the bolt, can you use any 700 action trigger group?

i know any 700 SA stock will work but is there any other receiver parts / mounting bolts, pillars, etc that needs to be found and purchased?

i believe there is a single feed and a repeater, are those parts / assemblies in or on the receiver already or do they also have to be found / purchased?

Re: 40x bolt question

PTG's 40-X bolts are not made to be 'drop in', they are made I believe .020 oversize on lugs to allow enough material for proper fitting to the hundreds of different actions they will be used in and allow safe headspace in all of them.

Seriously? Who did you email? I talked to Definie at the CMP and she apologized because they ran out before my order was finally processed. I got the written notice after I received my M12 stating that the 40-X HB and 40-X USMC where out of stock before they were able to process my October 3rd order. This was all in mid December. If they really are still in stock I want to order one. I have a brand new PTG bolt not being used right now.
