45 ACP

Re: 45 ACP

I've had great luck with both titegroup and 700x. I prefer titegroup because it is SO versatile. Loads nearly any pistol from 38spl, to 45acp to 500 SW mag.

This. I've not found a cleaner burning powder for cast bullets in my 45 Auto than Clays. It meters kinda' rough (it's a flake powder), but accuracy and cleanliness must be experienced to be appreciated.

Re: 45 ACP

If you have not tried it, pick up a lb of WST from Winchester. Ive gone over from Titegroup to WST with no issues. Easy shooting, fills the case much better than titegroup and burns nice and clean. W231 is pretty good but not a clean burning in my experience.

Re: 45 ACP

I like Titegroup with jacketed bullets, in .40, or 9mm, but, really don't care for it in .45 ACP.

Straight Clays is a really good powder for .45 ACP, except that it is temp. sensitive. Pressures, and velocities increase with higher temperatures.

VVN310, or N320 are awesome for medium loads, for faster loads, 340, or 350.

I have also found 231 (identical to hp38) to be VERY dirty. I mean REALLY REALLY dirty. I loaded some swayed lead 230gr ammo with it and it took 150 rounds to make my XD so caked up with fouling in the action it stopped functioning. Even caked up the loaded chamber indicator enough it was stuck up. I've read a lot of other people have success with it - maybe I was doing something wrong?

Haven't tried WSF, but have heard lots of good things.

Re: 45 ACP

I've used WST, WSF, 231, Bullseye, Greendot, WSL, and several others. Still use WST in all my handgun loads from 38 special to 45ACP. When it came out, the primary purpose was 45 ACP. Many top Bullseye shooters use it as well. Very consistent burn rate and not temp sensitive. The only pistol ammo I've ever seen that was "clean", was when Winchester had the WinClean. Cases came out of the gun spotless. As for me, WST works very well. I seldom ever clean my handguns. Maybe once a year or 4-5K rounds.
