Re: 45 LITTLE RED HEADS.....

Coming home from work and seeing that just made my day. It looks like danger is lurking. What lucky critters are you saving those for?

Re: 45 LITTLE RED HEADS.....

I am having a 308 built with a 10 twist and 18 inch barrel. I have been thinking of loading some up in that weight and bust some coyotes her where i live. What twist are you shooting those out of and hows the accuracy.

Re: 45 LITTLE RED HEADS.....

.308 stevens 200 (aka savage 10 action). for coyotes and groundhogs, anything that i don't want to save meat for consumption.

i gotta get newer pictures of the stick and end results:

not too bad for a $325.00 rifle!

the 110's stay sub moa out to aboout 475 yards the 165sst's i use for everything else out to about 550. either aren't too shabby out further though.

thanks, it takes a few more minutes to wipe off the tips to show the red, but they get attention at the range. most folks think they are tracers, incindiaries, or some sort of armor piercing. i let them think what they want.

Re: 45 LITTLE RED HEADS.....

yeah a little piece of "never dull" tends to take it right off, (only wipe it on the very tip) then i wipe down the whole thing with a dry cloth to take off any other haze.

i don't think they sell the 110 vmax with moly, i do it myself.

Re: 45 LITTLE RED HEADS.....

thanks, just krylon and some time.

rifle basix trigger, SSS knob, a whole bunch of stock mods (that's the actual gray factory stock under there). egw 20 moa base, and a cheap assed barska scope that surprising works well enough at the moment to keep. jp "howitzer" brake just for the hell of it.

the rest is bone stock - even down to the regular 22" sporter tapered barrel. but it seems to work, so i figure whay mess with it.

In a 10 twist rifle they come apart around 3500-3600fps from my 30-06

Calculating the RPM from that and going with a 14twist barrel you should be able to get them to about 4k before you limit out the chambering and twist rate.

TOP PREDATOR- We need to do some 'yote hunting. There's nothing around me for them, I'll get you a PM about it.

Re: 45 LITTLE RED HEADS.....

1-10 twist with 110gr bullets? Evidently they stay together fine. I think I might have to try some of these.

Everything looks AWESOME, except for that muzzle break...

Re: 45 LITTLE RED HEADS.....

accurracy.

if i push them any faster, the groups start opening up. i'm a firm believer that i'd rather arc like a rainbow and hit what i'm aiming at rather than flatter and missing. through my set up, this is the magic load / speed.

with the IMR 4064, case capacity starts becoming an issue also. the deeper primer pockets in the pmc brass only gets me to about 44.5 grains before it becomes a compressed powder charge, any other brass 45.5 grains. besides the extra "abuse" and pressures, it's not worth it to me because i start losing accurracy.

even with other powders and oal's, for some reason this is the formula that puts one round in another with that rifle. same goes for my 165 sst's, 2590 fps.

it just likes slow and heavy.

Re: 45 LITTLE RED HEADS.....

I have read shooting moly bullets is bad but coating a clean and stripped barrel with moly is good. Shooting moly leaves a hard as diamonds melted and solidified moly ring in the throat. Many barrel makers wont warranty a moly damaged barrel and warn against using moly bullets.

But the picture is cool...

Re: 45 LITTLE RED HEADS.....

man, when I saw these I started looking for moly coated bullets so I could reload some I didnt know they cant be had.

i've heard that too, i haven't had any problems. i figure if it's good enough for a select number of marines, i guess it's good enough for me.
