Looks like I’m getting a 457 Varmint under the tree this year from The Boss.

What kind of scopes are you all running with the CZ 457? And bases/scope rings?

Im gonna snag a brick of SK standard unless y’all can point me to something different.

I found the Bscar rails, as well as Area419. What is the benefit of a 25 moa rail on the CZ vs the 0 moa?

They let you sight in at longer distances than the "0" rail. The penalty is that you may not be able to sight in at short range. You can get the same result with Burris Signature rings and the optional inserts (up to 40 MOA increase in elevation on the rimfire rings, 20 MOA with 30mm. The +/- .010" inserts come with 30mm rings).

I have the 457 trainer with area 419 rail, vortex pro 30mm rings and strike eagle 4-26.

Did you go with the 15 or 30 MOA rail? Why did you chose the one you did if you don’t mind me asking. Trying to make up my mind as we speak. Also, thinking of going with the NightForce Benchrest 12-42x56 (taking advantage of their LE discount). Interested in thoughts on that as well.

Athlon Midas TAC. Buy the older gen used for a steal while folks are unloading them to get the Gen II. Definitely buy a higher 25 - 30 moa rail. I use a 40 personally. Still allows you to zero and hit 400yds. Buy a brick(500) of SK Standard plus to get you started but the best advice has already been given above. Goodshooting.com makes lot testing over the post very easy. Get 500-1000 rds down your barrel before you do it though.

    Enjoy!

    I think that’s the route I’m headed.
    BScar 25moa rail
    Gen 1 Athlon Midas Tac
    Brick of SK Standard

    Thanks much

@powerspc what are you trying to do with this rifle? I think that NF BR scope might be overpowering the rifle on one hand, but limiting your employment of it on the other. If you're just shooting groups at 50 and 100 to start off with a $400 or $600 is all you need, but if you pick the right one it will also enable you compete in some local 22 matches that involve multiple targets at different distances for time as well.

Target shooting out to 150 yds. Happy to take advice on mounts/scopes but prefer to stay with Leupold or NightForce due to their LE programs. Thanks!

Scope and ammo questions are very subjective. You've gotten some good suggestions and advice so far.

I would ask, what are your plans for this rifle? If just benchrest/casual range days, then the NF that you mention in a later post will be very nice. If you plan on competing in precision rimfire matches such as NRL22, I'd personally steer you towards the Athlon Midas Tac that was mentioned. If you want to take advantage of a LE discount with NF, I'd steer you toward their new NX8 offering, or, if you can afford it, their ATACR is probably one of the nicest and most popular optics being used in these type of matches. The NF benchrest scope that you mentioned has it's paralax adjustment on the objective bell and will be a liability in precision style matches.

As far as ammo goes, I'd steer you toward the SK/Lapua offerings. The reason being, besides being good quality ammo, the rim thickness is thicker than RWS and Eley ammo and it will better fill headspace in any factory produced rifle. Every CZ rifle that I've measured has had headspace in the .046" - .047" range. The closer that you can match rim thickness to headspace, the better your potential for tighter groups. There is obviously more to accuracy than just headspace, but every little bit adds up.

As far as mounts go.. You can't go wrong with one of Bill's (Bscar) rails. 419 and EGW rails are great quality but put the scope way too high for my liking. Bill's rails are top quality and only 35.00 shipped! Ring height will depend on which rail and scope that you decide on.

I have a Bscar mount on mine and just ordered

Kentucky longrange 3-18 (multi purpose gun so the 3-18 is better imho).
had a 20% off so I took a gamble and will compare it to my Athlon and vortex

Just wanted to tag in with an update

rifle arrived and it’s amazing. Wood is gorgeous and the action is smooth.

Got a BScar in for it, and I found the Vortex Diamondback Tactical at the local academy. I was able to look through it and test turrets, and liked it enough that I ordered the 4-16 version. Should be here next week and will be mounting it and taking it to the range next weekend.

I've got a 457 ProVarmint and I went with a Area 419 30moa rail and Seekins low rings (0.82") with a Athlon Argos 6-24x50 scope with room to spare between the barrel and objective bell. Granted that rail is approx. .5" tall so surely that helped. Not sure it would've fit with a standard rail being .25" tall or so.

Hopefully soon I will be able to take it to the range
