4831/4831Sc Hodgon

Re: 4831/4831Sc Hodgon

For a long time, 4831 (the IMR variant) was *the* big magnum powder.

Bear in mind that IMR4831 and H4831 are not identical (though their intended cartridge applications are) and load data is not interchangeable.

H4831 and H4831sc are nearly interchangeable and share load data, HOWEVER, if you worked up a stiff load of one, you should not switch to the other without backing down 5% or so and working back up.

Free 8# jug of 4831sc during a supply shortage, nice score brother. I went to four local shops here in Houston and only found two 1#'ers, and can't find any H4895.

The load datat is similar but not the same. I use the non SC in my WSM and I was going to try RL 17 but after working up a load with the 4831 I didn't bother.

He called about a hour ago and said he found the other 8'lb jug of varget.I need to go buy a lottery ticket. He said that he bought the powder about three years ago but never messed with it because he got scared that he would hurt himself.

Where would I start with the 4831sc in a 300wsm with 168gr a maxes and Berger vld's?

They are the same ballistically.

It's my preferred powder in my 338LM loads and I've used both.

I am getting setup to load my .260 and 4831sc is about the only thing I can get my hands on locally.
