Does anyone have any feedback on the 5.11 Rush 12,24 or 72 backpack?. How do you have yours set up and for what purpose? Im getting ready to set my new 12 up for a long range hunting day pack. Ill be shooting off mine in certain situations and i'm trying to rig up a custom small bag in the webbing to shoot off of. Do any of you have pics of your setup and what you carry?

Re: 5.11 Rush 12, 24 or 72 backback.

I bought a rush 24 a little over a year ago. I have traveled the country and flown around the world with it, I can honestly say I haven't had any issues and has held up without any problems.

On a daily basis, It's carrying a full size 17" Sony VIAO laptop and about 20 lbs of books and papers. All together its a little over 30 pounds of shit with charger and everything else. One of the reasons I like the bag so much is that it fits my laptop perfectly. The straps and yoke of the backpack is another huge plus. Distributes the weight nicely instand of along two points. Something else is that is cool is the water bladder is COMPLETELY isolated from the rest of the pack and there is a drain hole if it busts. Quick detatch snaps on the straps is a cool feature as well.

On range day, it holds everything I use. Spotter, tripod, binos, rearbag, ammo, cameras, lrf, tools, water etc. Loaded up it makes for a good rest if needed and molle all over to hold more crap if needed. Although I've never had to add anything.

Overall a great pack, thinking about buying another 24 and possibly a 72.

Re: 5.11 Rush 12, 24 or 72 backback.

I have the 24, bought it 2.5yrs or so ago, it has held up ok, the little tab that seperates the zippers on the two small pockets stitching failed. I used it summer and winter for backpacking, fishing, predator hunting, range bag, work, carry-on and snowmobiling in AK. I still use it regularly now that I'm in NC. I have carried over 100lbs of tools in it a few times. Overall I'm satisfied, I really appreciate the many small internal pockets. Like the molle, got a MUT, flashlight and a couple mags ready to go and easy to find on the outside. My main gripes are that it does not have a waistbelt and has enough capacity to be loaded heavy enough to need one, even when the load is not tools. My other gripe since I moved south, its become evident it does not allow enough airflow between it and you. I'm not looking for a replacment yet, but I don't think I'd buy another.
If you don't know there is a gun rest designed to attach to molle, might work better than a pouch.

Re: 5.11 Rush 12, 24 or 72 backback.

I have a 72 which I use as my gear bag for work (firefighter).

I also recently bought a Eberlestock Gunslinger II which I'm using now.

Between the two, the 5.11 Rush 72 is a better everyday pack IMHO. It just has more pockets for keeping all the junk I carry around more organized, and still carry a complete change of clothes.

One side pouch carries some survival components - paracord, caribeaners, small survival kit, and some EMS supplies. Other side pouch has a small camera, charger, ipod. Main compartment - knife sharpening kit full of DMT sharpeners and spare BM knife parts (screws, clips), and a spare change of clothes. Compartment flap over main compartment holds, pens, spare flashlight batteries, a couple knives, calculator and some paperwork.

All around I'd say the Eberlestock is a better made pack for serious use, but for a daily gear hauler I have no complaints with the Rush 72. Since I bought mine, they have improved the Rush 72 by adding additional lashing points to attach MOAB bag and a few other small improvements.

Here's some of the best prices I've found for 5.11 stuff -

I have but I do not like to shoot off my pack as is. How I do it is, a sheet of 2mil plastic cut to fit inside the sleeve of my pack. Sandpaper the edges and run duct tape, several layers around the edge of the plastic. This protects my pack and allows a good way to carry tape. The plastic not only will give better support for carrying as it is stiff but will act as a shooting platform.

The 12 is a little small for me even for a day trip. The 72 is large but has a beaver tail for toting game, firewood, water bucket, any odd large sized item.
