Where is the YHM 5.56 SS on the list, it goes from Ti 5.56 to the 7.62 ones...

Re: 5.56mm suppressor SOUND TESTING!

Very nice test, and I would like to see surefire when they are available.

A 5.56 can is next on my list, and I really like the looks of the mini 4 based on those results. Very interesting how much louder the results were at the ear, I would have thought the sound would have been less from the shooters position.

Re: 5.56mm suppressor SOUND TESTING!

Playerz, he said he accidently deleted the test results. He said that he thought it was saved, but obviously he didn't.

Nice to see the test results side by side.

With YHM being just as quiet as the rest of the more expensive cans, I think I will just go with them. I can put the extra money towards a nice scope.

Nice to see some testing done.

Contrary to what some of the manufacturers say, I don't think any suppressor will be hearing safe as long as you are firing supersonic rounds. You will always have that crack as the bullet breaks the sound barrier, I believe that can cause some damage. It even seems too loud when you are down range on the receiving end of the round.

Great testing though.... This is the most complete suppressor comparison I have seen. Much better than the usual you tube video!

Thanks for the kind words on the testing (it'll be even mo' extensive in the future).

As far as the db at the ear being so much louder - it's mostly the ejection port's fault. Your ear is only about 4" from the ejection port and A LOT of noise from the blast is coming back out that ejection port. The suppressor is doing it's job and suppressing the blast at the barrel end, but there's no "muffler" on the ejection port. As a result, it's always about 134/144 db at the shooter's ear (on a 16" barreled AR).

We'll be testing 5.56 cans on a bolt gun in the near future and you'll see a DRASTIC reduction in the "at the ear" db results.

Re: 5.56mm suppressor SOUND TESTING!

Interesting, I had not realized that so much noise came out of the ejection port., I knew that the action of the weapon had a lot to do with it though.

Anyways, I wish I resided in Oklahoma so I could use you guys as a dealer, my class 3s are a bit of a pain in the ass where I live, especially on their pricing.

Re: 5.56mm suppressor SOUND TESTING!

So will you guys be repeating this round of 5.56 vs. 7.62 with bolt guns as well?

EDIT: I personally am looking for results from bolt guns that would include actual 7.62 ammo.

Re: 5.56mm suppressor SOUND TESTING!

I have posted several times on the different suppressor forums about the ejection port side noise with certain types of assault rifles, good to see Major Malfunction conducting his testing at the right ear as well.

Yes sir!

We've got a Steyr Tactical Elite in 5.56mm that we'll be doing the exact same testing on (in the near future).
