Is there a way to have a 5 round 308 Pmag at this point or is there some sort of homemade plug that people are making? I can't find anything that will do this. I'm getting ready to order some DPMS 5 round steel magazines so I can be legal to hunt here in Maine but it would be nice to have a Pmag instead.

I have some DPMS 5round steel mags. I do not like them at all & are known for jammin. I think it really has something to do with the crappy weak springs and crappy followers in them... After so many issues with them with a couple different .308 AR's I just stopped using them especially for the critical deer hunting shot. I'm going to see If I can figure something out with an internal plug with the 20rd PMAGS,,,, or maybe even cut one down???... It would be nice if they just came out with an 10 & 5round .308 option.

I cut mine down but I was talking with a magpul rep and he said they will be coming out with 5 and 10rd mags shortly
The new generation 20-round 7.62 PMAGs are indeed due out soon according to Magpul (no exact date aside from "soon"), and the 25-round and 10-round variants soon thereafter. I have never heard Magpul reference a "5-round" version, but I know that they are coming out with limiters (like they already have for their 5.56 mags) that will limit a 10-round to 5-rounds.
I too have personally cut-down and pinned full-size 20LR PMAGs to hold 10- and 5-rounds, but I can't honestly say I'd recommend it unless you just can't wait. The necessity of pinning the baseplates on to make the mag work also means that they can't really be disassembled for maintenance/cleaning which can be an issue if you hunt in some of the @#$% I do from time to time.
I'd hold out for the factory mags if I were you.Ty has quit doing this for the time being to the best of my knowledge given the relative short supply of 20LR PMAGS at this time (since the 1st of the year or so). Might be worth a try to get in touch with him to see if he'll be doing any more, or if you aren't comfortable doing them yourself if he can assist you in that regard.
I had found the Midwest PX site before, and it seems like he is out of stock as you say. It does looks like I could still possibly send him one of my 20 round Pmags and he will do the conversion for 12 dollars. Maybe I should do that. I need something legal to hunt with before November.
I don't recall ever seeing a KAC 5-round SR-25 magazine first-hand (plenty of KAC factory 20- and 10-round mags though), but assuming they did in fact make one...would you REALLY want to spend $125 on a 5-round mag when others can be sourced for significantly less money and still get the job done with 100% reliability??
I thought that Ty was, at least at one time, offering the conversion. He does an excellent job...I have a few of his mags before I did some of my own for the same reason that you are wanting/needing them (5-round only in WV for hunting purposes). That's probably your best bet in the interim until Magpul gets their new .308 mag offerings to the market. While its possible they'll be available before you need them in Nov., Magpul has a LOT on its plate right now and stuff happens. I'd rather have something in hand in plenty of time to test it for reliability/function well before the season starts than to hold out for a product that may not come in time or otherwise might arrive and leave you no time to ensure its satisfactory operation.
I've cut down several 308 pmags to 5 rounders. It takes maybe 20 minutes once you figure out how to do it. Here's how I did it.
First, cut down the body just below the first rib. This will keep it long enough to stay below the mag well. With this length it still holds seven rounds, so you need to make a block. I just used a piece of the waste material from the bottom portion of the mag. I made it 1.7" long, and fit it in the groove in the bottom of the follower, and pin it in place with the mag spring. It should look like this:
Two notes on that, I wrap the block in duct tape to keep it from rattling inside the mag when it's done. Also cut 5 wraps off of the spring, still gives good tension and perfect function.
To re-attach the floor plate, I chose to drill and tap the plastic and use 6-32 screws. This way it's easy to take down for cleaning if need be. It turned out like this:
Note that I didn't take the time to make sure the screws were straight across, a sloppy mistake I have since corrected. Those screws need to be about 1/4" long.
A final pic of the finished mag next to a 20 rounder. I've also made a 15 by cutting one off just below the last rib. 15 is plenty for me and allows it to work better from a bench than the 20's. HTH.

+1 for MidWest PX. I sent him 4 of my LR20s. I had 2 different cuts - one was a stubby that was nearly flush with the magazine well and the other was cut at the first rib line keeping the "aesthetics" of the magazine. Turn around was quick and quality was top notch. I've never had a issue with mine and have been using them for a several hunts and on the range.
Ty has two basic types.
1) Cut-down by a rib and then limit capacity to 5-, 10- or 15-rounds with use of a mag block such as seen here:

You can make a block out of thick kydex. Just cut a strip and add it between the mag spring and front or rear wall of magazine before reassembly. It will block the follower from going further down. Should be easy since you can disassemble the mag, hold it upside down, insert 5 rounds, measure from base of magazine to bottom of follower, and cut kydex a little shorter than that.
The last few posts have provided some good intel on Midwest PX. My mags were done quite some time ago and I can't say with 100% certainty if Ty still does this service. I would assume so, but nevertheless, give him a shout and confirm. Here are some pics of the work he's done for me:

For what it's worth, you can make your own and their are some great tutorials out there. I just didn't trust my hand at cutting, blocking, and putting the magazine back together and be functioning again!

Thanks for posting pics and the good descriptions. That is what I understood the two options to be but it is good to see some pics of finished mags to be certain before I order. I believe I will go with the flush stubbies.
MidwestPX does have the limitation conversions on their web site. Directions to purchase the services you want, print it out and send the copy with your mags to them.

I've used his modified 20LR mags on and off for a couple of years now (as I bounce back and forth between bolt guns and gas guns for match use) and they've always worked great for me.
If you aren't terribly handy, or don't have the time to modify a mag; I've got a DPMS 10-rounder that I use in my MWS that has been totally reliable, never a malfunction, not the first one. Only holds 9 rounds, but is handy off of the bench.
