Anybody tried this. I am curious on the velocity. It will most likely be short of the Big 50 but should be efficient enough to get close to the same speed. Sort of a short mag. Look at all of the short cartridges being offered today, 338 Norma vs 338 Lapua, 300 WSM vs 300 Win Mag. Why wouldn`t this work?

The 416 is not the 50BMG necked down to 416. The 416 is a shortened 50BMG. Look it up sometime, you will see the difference.

I don't have one but I wonder how it compares to a 106mm recoilless spotter round? I have a 416 Barrett empty case and was wondering the same thing.

The spotter round is alot shorter and has more case taper than the 416 Barrett. Can somebody send me a fired 416 case and I`ll measure water capacity after it has been necked up to 50 and compare it to the 50 Spotter?

I was told Barrett uses US-869 for their loading in the 416. If you neck it up to 50cal, it should get BMG velocities with less powder and also more powders to choose from than the standard 50 or the 416.
