I must say. I have no need for such a weapon...

but I have no need for any weapon except a 9mm pistol and a 5.56 semi rifle. (in my opinion)

everything else is a want for me....

sooo. I want a 50BMG rifle

I'm thinking hard and I have few choices in my head from the weapons I want.

Desert Eagle 50AE
FN FiveSeven
GAP10
50BMG rifle

so I'm trying to see what my options are for a 50BMG rifle...

I want the Serbu semi 50, but I can't afford that. my budget is 3,000 and would prefer to be around 2000, so I can get a somewhat decent scope for 1,000 to throw on it for now.

Any suggestions? There is a AR50 someone on my local forum is selling for 2300 that I might be able to talk down hundred or so.... then I found a vulcan armament bullpup style 50BMG that's only ~$2000. and then the SHTF50 which is a AR15 conversion, or full rifle for around 2000 again...

can anyone point me in the right direction?

Re: 50 BMG time?

I feel your pain,as I have a .300wm I shoot to 1400.
A .338lapua I'm still working on. And started building a .50 bmg bolt gun this year! Did I need it? Hell no. You can do the .50 for about $2000 if you look around.I wanted a bolt gun I could load without taking the thing apart! Good luck with your new gun!

Re: 50 BMG time?

I've been looking at the Ar-50s for years now just can't make up my mind what I would use it for after I got Bord of shooting APIs at steel plates. ($2200 for used Ar-50 $1500+ for scope and another 1500 for a can. 3$ per shot. Pretty sure I could shoot 240smks out of a 300Rum for a lot cheaper and still get some practical use in.

Yeah I hear ya... it's very pricey to shoot.

I might be able to justify it for the a .50AE for shooting 5-6 rounds at the indoor range, but when I go outside to setup, I want to shoot more like 20 rounds! that's like 70 bucks in ammo! lol

Yeah, .338LM would be nice too. I guess it's just before the maximum line.

Also thinking and maybe doing a GAP-10 would be a good choice. it's more of a hybrid. but sure as hell doesn't have the 'wow' factor.

if serbu semi was around 3,000. I already know what I would have gotten.

I just want a cool new toy. that's what it is....

Re: 50 BMG time?

It's not the accuracy of the 50 I want. It's that massive fucking round. I won't shoot it past 1000 yards. And that's a 4 hour drive

Re: 50 BMG time?

I think the AR50A1 is the best 50BMG gun for under 4K. Mine is really accurate with AMAX rounds and still good with MilSurp crap. It is way more pleasant to shoot than the Barrett M99 and I wouldn't trust my face to a Bohica or some no name AR upper.

Re: 50 BMG time?

If you can get that AR-50 for around $2k like you were thinking, I'd say go for it.

The other 2 cheap options you mentioned are kind of on the junky side and I would run away from those.

The AR-50 is a beast, but it is actually very accurate and is one of the softest recoiling .50 BMG rifles around. In my opinion it makes a great low cost entry into the .50 BMG world and one that will be gentle on your shoulder.

If you have the urge for the biggest bullet you might as well give it a try and if you can get the AR-50 in the $2000-$2300 range the good news is that if you get bored with it (or on the opposite side get hooked and want a even better unit), you can probably get all your money back when you sell it.

Then hunt around for some cheap surplus ammo and you are all set to go.

I'm pretty sure the first couple times you touch off that big round you will have a nice big smile on your face.

Oh one note: When you go to shoot it, if you have anyone with you make sure they are watching from directly behind you (like standing behind your feet / back) not on the side of you unless they are a ways off.

I'm well aware.

There is a guy about 4 hours away from me selling one for 2350. If I offer 2200 I think he will do it. It has 50 rounds through it.

This won't be my first time shooting the 50... I've shot (and shooting next weekend) the ma deuce. So I know the rush. But it's diff when it's yours and not the gov's :)

I really want that serbu 50a! (semi)

Re: 50 BMG time?

I agree with the advice about getting the AR-50. I had one until I recently sold it to get another 50BMG (waiting for the arrival of my EDM Windrunner). It was fun as hell to shoot, the recoil was very manageable and it is extremely solid and quite accurate. I mounted a fixed 16 power Super Sniper scope on it which seemed to hold up well as I didn't and still don't have the funds for the Nightforce I plan on getting. I recommend getting the APA monopod and bipod for it as they are quality pieces. I admit that nothing puts a bigger grin on my face than shooting the .50BMG. Good luck with your decision.
