Got done a powder charge shoot a few days ago. Want to post a pic so you guys can check it out and see what node should I use. I see 2 nodes. 68.3 and 70.3. Let me know what you guys think. Target is 500 yards out, orange circle is 2” for reference for vertical diferences.

This is what I don't like about over thinking. He has a .5 MOA group with one bull @68.3. Unless we are calling 70.3 a forgivable shooter flyer. What is your rifle?

You could call it over thinking, but I assumed he was trying to find a charge or some charges that retained vertical at the distance he shot this.
70.3 is the best charge by far, my advice of starting at 70.0gr and going up may have been off some, (70.2) perfect start. Just from my experience, if he shot this under decent conditions and shoot good at the time, the charge weight he will settle on will be between 70.2-70.5.
He will just need a seat depth tweak to bring it all together.

@Culpeper the rifle is a stock browning abolt 300win. A few years ago the forum helped me find a sweet spot for my Sako m995, with that help I harvester a cow elk at 890 yards last year. My dad was there and was amazed. Now he wants to be able to reach out and touch something. Granted he’s not looking for a 1000 yard shot, but wants a good bullet/rifle combo to harvest an elk if he has to shoot up to around 600 yards.

So basically what needs to be done is find a good powder charge so it can be stable in all temps. I will also load a small batch of 68.3 with a few seating depth changes and see how it does.

Not trying to override anything, but if you want to go off group size alone, your 68.8gr and 69.8gr charges rule your target. Point of impact is irrelevant here. You will need to rezero your rifle no matter which charge you choose.

Not trying to go off group sizes right now, trying to get it as vertical stable first. So guess I will scratch the idea of 68.3 load?

This is a template for a steel plate, if you measured your target out, and placed your aimpoint dots level across the board, one for each charge. You now can run a combo OCW-Ladder all in one. If you do not understand what I am saying, PM me.

Thank you @Hondo64d, I made a small batch of 3 of each for each seating depth, jumping .030” for each set.

Your modified ladder is the exact method I use. I think three shots per charge tells a much more complete story than just one shot per charge. I then look for the charges that give me the most overlap combined with the least vertical.

So a quick update, I made two sets of loads, one box was with 70.3 and the other box was with 68.3,with 3 rounds of each seating depth , starting at .010 off the lands and working back .040 at a time all the way up to .200 off the lands. Well I went off to the range with a few other rifle to plink around, and by mistake took the wrong reloading boxes. I ended up taking the 68.3 and forgot the 70.3 at home. So the pics bellow is of the 68.3. Will try to do the 70.3 end of the week or early next week. So anyway looks like the eld-x like to be seated .010”-.050” off the lands.
