Well I need some one to educate me on something. I have now heard it twice from two separate people, both claiming to be military. The claim is this: If a 50bmg bullet passes with in a foot of your head, do to the massive air displacement it will liquefy your brain. I find this really hard to believe for me. I am wondering if any of you guys, can prove this true or false. I always like to challenge what people say to see if it is true or not. So I would like to see the facts one this one.

Thanks

sorry about any bad spelling or grammar, I am a horrible writer!

Thanks for the help, even the smart ass comments. I knew there would be a few. I didn't think it was true either, but figured I would ask.

Powder burns, that is a great point. I never hear of people shooting paper with a 50, not saying they don't, just I always here of people shooting steel. SO never thought about it, but great point

I shoot paper often with my 50,haven't had any get back up either....I think that guy in the video is shooting steel too damn close,I stay at least 300 yards back.

Re: 50bmg myth

Most of the rumors about the 50 are BS!
You can shoot it at personel, it won't tear off your arm if it flies within ten feet of you, it won't shoot through a mountain, it won't travel 50 miles from point of richet, it won't travel 100 miles blah blah blah!

I have a couple of friends who hunt with fifties and they told me that it leaves a quarter size hole going in and a quarter size hole going out, all bets are off when you hit bone however (they had posted some pics after hunting havalina(sp)).
I shot a pumkin a couple of time and it did the same! My 1911 actualy tore it up better then my 50 bmg which was passing right through!

Re: 50bmg myth

The legends and stories about 50s are hilarious. I don't own one but I've shot several from the 1000yd line and have spent time with some of the best 50 shooters in the country. I've been in the target pit during a few FCSA 1000yd matches with 50s flying a few feet over my head. My brain wasn't liquified (some may argue that) but the sonic crack from the 1st few shots scared the shit out of me. There's nothing magical or mythical about them. It's just a big ass rifle that makes a lot of noise and kicks a little.

Re: 50bmg myth

Actually guys, this myth is true. But .mil reseach has proven it only works on zombies, and other personel of similar post-mortem re-animated state. So, these folks telling you these stories are actually divulging classified info, and violation their secrecy oaths. Feel free to arrest and hold them until DHS can pick them up.

If I'm correct I believe the Army's min safe distance for ricochet hazard from a 50 on a hard target is 200 meters. That mild steel core can be nasty as seen in the video you are addressing.

If a 50BMG and accessories passed within a foot of your wallet, it will liquefy you bank account.

If your car with a 50BMG has to park more than 100 feet from the shooting bench, your arms will fall off.

If you shoot a 50BMG prone with recoil compensator, the dust kicked up will provide you with Camouflage.

If you have to wait for a 50MBG barrel to cool off, your face will grow a beard.

The cost in target ammo to shoot a 50BMG 5 shot group, would pay for a bottle of expensive whiskey.

Same here. I know my memory isn't what it used to be, but that's not from 50's flying over my head

I can vouch for this. I tried it twice.
