I would like to shoot a carbine course at Sig one day hopefully. I've always shot 69 SMKs but I am not gonna waste them on a course, and I was just gonna grab a bunch of cheap 55 gr bullets. I have been using Varget for years. Rather than have to buy another powder like Benchmark, I'd rather not have to go that route and just use what I have. Any of you guys choose to run Varget with lighter projectiles like the 55s in your AR?

55 gr Bullets and Varget

I don't choose to run 55 grain bullets with Varget, but it can be done. Varget will fill the case close to the top with 55 gr. bullets. 25-26 grains will work for your class, if that's what you want to do.
Buy cheaper powder to run those 55g bullets. That's what I would do. Shit I worked up a load for Hornady 55g with H380 that I had 5lbs sitting around with no use. Then cranked out a few thousand on the 650.
What else besides h380 comes to mind? I’ve only tried benchmark for light bullets in the past, but less than a hundred
For light bullets I've used H 322, H 335, AA 2015, W 748, and H Benchmark. All worked but I settled on Benchmark. I use Varget for SMK 69 loads.
Tac has also worked well for me with my 69gr smks... i would use whatever is more available to you in your area. Who knows you may be able to get to shoot your 69gr bullets better than varget.... with all of that being said, my go to powder for 60gr vmax and 69gr smk out of my ar is varget.
I bought 5, thousand piece boxes of 50gr zombie (green ballistic tip) bullets off a guy who said he thought he ordered 55gr. $20 per box I couldn't say no.
I've been loading 28gr of CFE 223 (I've got a couple of jugs of it) on a 550B, and it holds under a minute @ 300 yds out of a match grade AR. I'm pretty satisfied with it in range brass for plinking.
I have to say, I enjoy the fact that I can take my AR out and shoot the hell out of it without thinking about the cost. I don't think about the cost at matches at all, but when I'm practicing on my home range I do think about what each round/mag is costing in time and money to reload it, and watching the round count on my barrel like I was watching the gas gage on a '75 Impala doing 80 down the highway....
I really need to get a .223 trainer set up like my match gun so I can quit worrying about it.

Varget for 77's, H335 for 52-55's. The 77's are 24 grains of Varget, 55's we're around 27 I think. 25 grains of H335 is good for 52 and 53 SMK or 55 FMJ. Less powder, more loaded rounds.
How many do u have to load up? I'd definitely go with a cheaper powder for some bulk reloads, even benchmark while cheaper than varget isn't cheap. And varget doesn't meter well enough for bulk reloads IMO. Grab 2k hornady fmj or sp's and 8lbs of a cheap easy metering powder some minimal load development done&done
