Morning all. So I just finished my rifle build and need to know if anyone has any load data for this round. I found a couple but am interested to know if anyone has any pet loads they want to share. Thanks

Re: 6.5-06 load recommendations

I have not used a 6.5-06 in 12 years so I don't remember the details, but I was using H4831sc at around 49gr-53gr with the 142s. I also used RL19, don't remember how much powder but I did get higher velocities with it.

Re: 6.5-06 load recommendations

topgun, I'm getting great results using 142SMKs and 54.5 grains of H4831SC thru my tactical 6.5-06. I'm loading them about .10 off the lands.

Hope this helps.

tg,

Moly 123 Scenars with N-560 and WLR primers. Case volumes of .30-06 cases vary too much to recommend a starting load.

I have a 6.5-280 Ackley Improved (in the same family as the 6.5-06) and these both seem to be good loads. Obviously, start lower and work your way up.

Re: 6.5-06 load recommendations

H1000 is a good powder for this chambering with 130's and 140's

There is a slight edge in performance by running a FULL case of Retumbo under the 140's

My buddy and I are on the 3rd 6.5-06 barrel between us with lots of work trying to max out the chambering. This setup has similar overbore ratio to a 338LM, powders that work well for 285-300gr bullets in 338LM work well here too.

Be careful, once you taste hitting 1ky targets in under 6 mils it's tough to put down the barrel smoking crack pipe...

Re: 6.5-06 load recommendations

As a comparison, I am running 55.0gr of H-4831SC with the Nosler 150gr Ballistic Tip in my .280 Rem (7mm-06/7mm Rem Express). The Hodgdon site says this is about 2gr over max, my rifle and pressure signs only indicate moderately warm pressures. Accuracy is good. SWAG velocity estimate is 2750fps. Start lower, work up (, obviously).

Pending accuracy confirmation out to 1Kyd; I would consider this to be an excellent all-around basic load for my .280's (a pair of vintage 'family legacy' Ruger MKI's, a sporter vs a varmint barrel being the only difference between them).

So far, I have only had 250yd to play in.

Pejsa suggests a 1230fps/500fpe velocity/energy at 1Kyd, my local altitude, 1000ft ASL, 9 Mils/32.5 MOA above a 200yd zero. Recoil is not an issue, but it's loud (and I don't use brakes).

Re: 6.5-06 load recommendations

I run the 130's with 49.5 grains of imr 4350. 26" barrel with 8 twist gets 3325. I have over 750 rounds through mine and throat looks great. I had to put it down, because I was gonna wear it out shooting it(I built as a long range hunting gun).
