+1 for 6mmbr. They have a ton of good info on the 6.5/284, also a good spot to look for 223AI data.

H4350/N160 & H4831SC, You can make about any primer work. Lapua brass Sierra 142SMK very reliable easy to tune projectile. Have fun..........

I have had a lot of success with RL22(52.0 grs, work up to this), WLR primers and Berger 140 VLD's. This load has worked in two different rifles.

I'm running '22 as well w/139gr Scenar's. Lapua casings, CCI BR2's and 53.5gr. Work up to this load, running 2950-2975 in my rifle.

I ran 47.5 grains of H4350 at around 2900 trying to take it "easy" on the barrel. Great 1000 yard gun. I got pressure on hot days with the usual 48 grain load.
start at around 47.0 to 47.5, should be pretty safe, but things fet hot fast after that.

Nick that's pretty much the same experience that I had out of H4350. I got great accuracy but was on the edge with the pressure to be able to get much over 2900 fps. I'm running close to 2950 fps with RL22 with absolutely no pressure signs. I can go higher but accuracy starts to fall off.

Anyone use RL17? I don't recall who it was but some benchrest shooter did a far amount of load workups using RL17 and a 142SMK and was getting close to 3200fps and good groups in his 6.5-284

Awesome article on the 6.5-.284. I've been whitetail hunting with one for 7 yrs. now.Built on a 700 action, with a 27" #5 Shilen barrel, Jewel trigger, shooting 140gr. Barnes TSX (for hunting)with Federal 215 primers, Reloder 22 and LaPua brass. It is a shooter @ approx. 2900fps.Good luck with yer build.

If it's true that they can get 3100+ with RL17 and a 142SMK that is right there with a 264 win mag but with wayyyyy better brass.
This could easily be my next build. I think a 6.5-284 in a light weight hunting class rifle would be great deer gun.
