Call me crazy, but has anyone made or sold a 6.5CM FAL.

I know its heresy blah blah but for some reason a 18" Para FAL in 6.5CM is calling my name.

I just can't find anything on 6.5CM FAL's online. Anyone ever hear of one or seen one?

Thanks,

Well since it's not the original design in the cartridge it was designed for & is probably made by some fly by night boutique outfit, I wouldn't waste yer money. Just buy a reliable, battle tested LMT. 😉

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Have a LMT MWS H sitting in safe waiting for a 6.5CM Barrel from LMT :)

I think the hardest part would be figuring out the gas regulation but everything else should be drop in since its designed around .308/7.62.

Man, OP, I'm super jealous! If you couldn't tell by my handle, I'm kind of an FAL and 6.5 CM fan. If you don't end up buying it, please feel free to holler at me, I'd be interested. Thanks.

Sorry for the confusion. That is a pick of a Para Congo .308 for reference. I have never seen or heard of a 6.5CM FAL but why has someone not done it yet? Take one of the greatest battle rifles ever made and give it a softer and flatter shooting round.

As far as why it hasn't been made, I would say based on my time being into fals for several years that the market isn't there for the same reason a lot of higher end stuff for the ak market isn't there. The user base tended to largely be people who got really cheap kits, mags, parts, and ammo in the early 2000s who would not pay anywhere close to the prices the AR people will pay for stuff.

I think it would be a cool idea too, especially since the original fal was something like a 270 or 280 type round and only made in 308 after America forced nato to accept that new caliber.

The FAL isn’t the kind of gun that would take any advantage of the 6.5cm round. Why not enjoy the low cost of budget .308 for a gun that suits it well? It will never be a 600+ yard fun gun. It’s the quintessential battle rifle. Full caliber rifle round, mediocre precision, heavy, reliable.

Trust me, don't waste your time or money.

You do know the Mk20 comes in 6.5CM? If it helps it uses the same mag geometry as FAL only with an AR type latch and cutout. It also doesn't have the stupid step down the 7.62 version has. Proven Outfitters is taking orders for all versions I think and has .mil/vet discounts, but I got my 7.62 for five hundred less on GB of all places last summer.

Why the fuck you'd invest in an FAL when that exists is beyond me. I finally unloaded all my FAL stuff, basically paid for the Mk20, ten mags, bipod and monopod. Essentially a one for one trade. (It was a NICE FAL but still an FAL).

Find a new/almost new Austrian para with a Steyr hammer forged, chrome lined barrel. Leave it stock. Get a few mags, you're done with FAL's. Doesn't need an optic, doesn't need upgrades. It's not a suitable DMR. BTDT. I'd probably still have one if I hadn't done all that shit to it.

If you gotta be fancy, get a folder and a DSA scope mount with the cutout for an ACOG base. It'll still be too high for a cheekweld but it's the best you'll get for an FAL. That or an LED trilux if you can find one.

Have to agree with @Strykervet and his take. It is odd to hold and heavy even with the 16 inch barrel. The only optic I could imagine on it would be the SUIT, because that just fits the style and type. I have an older DS prefix serial number with a STEYR barrel and that is the ONLY reason I halfway think about keeping it. Good chance it will get burned at a gunshow this weekend and fund something else I might actually use.

DSA made a .260 Rem FAL about 10 years ago. I don’t see any alternate caliber options on their site anymore.

FAL has an external ejector, so it’s not anywhere as near nice to brass. The brass hits the ejector, the gets spun out with a bit of force.
