Hi guys, I'm planning about my next barrel, I'm going to always use direct thread Omega 300 for this gun. So wanna cut down the length and weight of the whole gun. (MDT ESS + Origin)

Heard the new 150s heavy bullets are awesome, but need higher twist.

So if I only use high BC bullets like 147eldm 150smk 153A-tip, would a 22" barrel + suppressor be enough?

Anyone has experience, powder/primer recommendation?

Thanks.

I can still push the 140 class bullets to 2800 with my 22” barrel and H4350. R16 would be even faster.

I think you’ll be fine for pretty much any application you’ll be using for.

I ran a 22" 6.5 Creedmoor until recently (burned it out), an 8 twist, and shot majority 147 ELDMs out of it without issue. If you're going to give the heavies a go, I'd look at RL-23 and RL-26.

47.1gr RL-26 with the 147's in my rifle was getting 2800fps and hammered. 48.0 is kinda the pressure cap (61000psi in a SAAMI test barrel) and got 2840 in my rifle. Accuracy wasn't as good at the higher velocities. YMMV, start low and work up, etc. etc... Some guys I know have had erratic accuracy with RL26 in the creedmoor, I never had a problem with the 47.1gr load.

I am running a set up similar to what you have in mind.
It's a 23" Bartlien 1-7.5 twist with the SAAMI. 199" freebore.
At .015" jump I'm at a COAL of 2.945" and will run into mag length restrictions pretty quick if I planned on sticking with them.
If you plan on running the 150smk exclusively you might consider a little less freebore to give yourself a little more room to chase the lands.

Thanks for great info! I'm not familiar with non-standard freebore yet. Is it because the 150smk is somehow shorter? so needs to be seated forward?

Not shorter, it's a pretty long bullet but has a longer nose section with the bearing surface further back similar to a vld design.
By going with a slightly shorter freebore it would give you more room to chase the lands and stay within mag restrictions for longer.
It's also a trade off if you decide to use the more common tangent profile of bullets as you will be in the lands at a much shorter COAL and also eating up case capacity a little.
