Guys, I'm relatively new to long range shooting and need some feedback. I'm in the process of getting quotes on building a 6.5 creedmoor. I've gotten a quote from RW Snyder and GA Precision. Are there any others you would recommend? Any advise on the build? I will primarily be bench shooting, but might take it on a hunt at some point and time. Any advise or help would be appreciated.

I love that round I am getting my third 6.5 creed in next week.

With that said if you are going to mainly bench shoot I would look into the 6.5X47 I think it will fit the bill better if you reload.

I have rifles built by Alan, GAP, and Mark all are hammers!!!Can not go wrong with any that have been listed.

What are you looking for? Any specific questions?

Get good parts and have them put together by the right people. I have all GAP rifles and love them.

Some specifics, I wouldn't get the barrel any shoretert han 24" especially if you are shooting factory ammo. 8 Twist is a good choice. Contour is up to you but a med palma if you plan on hunting alot with it might cut down the weight but still give good rigidity for long range target shooting.

Action is up to you as anything from a trued Rem 700 to a Surgeon will work fine when put together right.

Stock, just look at what you like and want. Manners with the mini chassis system would give you a great stock and a DBM in one unit.

SOUTHERN PRECISION RIFLES just chambered a Creedmoor for me and am very satisfied. Stiller action, Brux barrel and Jewell trigger, Greg is good to deal with. Look for BUGHOLES.

+1. Especially if you don't like long waits!

Pharm,

I'll try to help you out and make a few suggestions. Prior to building/shooting tactical rifles I was a solid BR guy all the way. You mention bench shooting as possibly BR style shooting. My 6BR and 6Dasher BR rifles are in the back of the safe collecting dust. While those types of rifles are fun to shoot and very accurate, they're not multi purpose rifles. Concrete Bench, front rest, rear bag, square range, range flags. Boring is a quicker way to say all that.

All of that leads me to say this, build a tactical style rifle. You can bench shoot it, F-Open it, hunt with it, shoot tactical matches with it or just about anything else you want. They are very much the multi-purpose/use type rifle.

Most 6.5 Creedmoor's that are built as a tactical style rifle will weigh around 13-16#'s all up depending on stock, scope and barrel contour. My personal rifles are pushing 16#'s all up and that’s about as heavy as I'd like to go although I have built rifles that were 17#+ and that’s pretty heavy to sling/tote all day.

The components I'd use are as follows;

Bartlein or Krieger #8 or #18
Chambered in 6.5 CM finished at 26"
Custom receiver Surgeon 591, Defiance Machine etc. (get the AW magazine cut if possible)
McMillan or Manners stock with flush cups and bipod stud
Surgeon DBM
Jewell or your preferred Trigger set at 2#'s
All metal in FB Cerekote

This will run you from $3,800 to $4,500 depending on who you call

There are several very good builders here on the hide and a few may already have rifles ready to ship.

SAC, GAP, Black Ops and Surgeon Rifles just to name a few. There's no black magic or secret formula used when building these rifles. Just trust your gut and go with who ever you feel best about.

The above components are used in probably 90% of the builds going now.
