So I don't know much about either... I hear the 6.5 is a good round and has good ballistics... It's a pretty far in the future purchase... Small to medium/large game. and some target... trying to find a good long range club or range to join so would like something that can go out to at least 800 yards with some good accuracy.

What's your opinions on which is better or another choice. I don't hand load yet cause lack of time here at the academy. But am looking to in the future.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor vs. 6.8 SPC

6.8 SPC is a ballistically challenged choice for a LR round. It was developed to acheive the same goal as the commie 7.62X39-good terminal ballistics within 300m.

6.5 Creedmore is a round developed by long range shooters for long range shooters. Great ballistics in a short action, feeds well from mag.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor vs. 6.8 SPC

The 6.8 SPC is basically a larger version of the 5.56. It is a good 0-300 yard hunting round for medium sized animals such as hogs. If you plan on shooting past 300 yards, I'd get something else. The 6.8 SPC is a good round, but until someone comes out with better BTHP bullets, it is limited.

The Creedmoor is a much better round, but it is also in an AR10 platform.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor vs. 6.8 SPC

I've got 10 loadings on two lots of my 6.5CM brass and they're still goin strong. 6.5's are freaking lasers. I'll sell ya one so you can try it out for yourself lol. I think your prolly thinking 6.5 grendel vs 6.8SPC as they are intended for very similar uses. 6.5 Creedmoor still gets my vote. My fav caliber out of all I've had.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor vs. 6.8 SPC

If your talking about 6.8SPC vs 6.5 Grendel there is a 2 or 3 page article in the new Special Weapons magazine that come out this month but they screwed up 80% of the pictures with the wrong subtitles.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor vs. 6.8 SPC

No. I was talking about the 6.5 cause I had heard it was pretty good for long range. I just didn't know about what its competition might be. Also what gun would I be looking at getting in the creedmoor? GAP? or some other custom? And the thing for me in my state is that I can't hunt with a Semi so I would like to get it in a bolt action. Its a gonna get in the next 2 years kinda gun. Cause that's when I will have the funding. Also, I currently have a Mark 4 LR scope on my 700 in 308. Would I be better off getting some quick release rings for it and switching it between the guns or saving up even more and getting a used NightForce or USO?

Thanks

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor vs. 6.8 SPC

Id reccomend any high quality barrel/action on a good stock plumbed by a good smith and wear that sucker out. Templar/bartlein/manners/mcm etc, etc

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor vs. 6.8 SPC

Without the doubt go with the 6.5 Creedmoor

It blows the .308 away and runs neck and neck with the .260

Ammo is cheaper and you will be very happy.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor vs. 6.8 SPC

As mentioned by others, these are two way different calibers. The 6.8 is an "improved" AR round. The 6.5 Creedmoor is a long range competition round. That said, I think there are better rounds in each category. For the AR, I'd go with the 6mmAR if you wanted to improve on the 5.56. For the 6.5 Creedomoor, I'd go with the 6x47 Lapua...I"d rather be buying a Lapua-sponsored round that Creedmoor.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor vs. 6.8 SPC

I'm from Nebraska, and I would rather buy the Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor ammo. I believe it to be a lot better than the Grendel for both close and far shooting. There is an AR out there handles the 6.5 Creedmoor. IIRC the Creedmoor is a bit shorter and can be used in the AR-15 platform rather than the AR-10. Is this right?

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor vs. 6.8 SPC

FYI, the 6.5Creedmoor was developed, or with assistance from, a XTC shooter, not a LR shooter for use as an XTC round. Just happens that the 6.5Creedmoor makes a pretty good LR round as well. :)

Actually the 6.5 Creedmoor needs an AR10 size semi. Too long for an AR15. DPMS makes one in 6.5 Creedmoor and any gunsmith can screw on a barrel to an upper. I plan on getting one in the next year or so.

I am tempted between in AR15 in 6.5mm CM or in 6mm-AR. The former has the advantage, for me, to not add yet another caliber to reload (since 6.5mm CM is already in my toolbox).
