6.5 creedmoor with RL17 loads?

I don't think I'm alone in looking at alternate powders to replace H4350 for the time being. Let's see what you guys have figured out.

I loaded up some 140 Berger hybrids with 42.6 r17. Rifle is a GAP crusader with a 27" bbl. I went from 2805 fps with 42.6 h4350 to over 2900 with r17. Accuracy was EXCELLENT. 7.4 mils or 25.4 moa to hit 1,000.

I load 43.5 RL 17 in a 260 rem, 28" barrel, 130 gr berger, 3050 FPS and 1/2" groups. I love it, have not tried in hot weather, RL 17 some say temp. sensitive. I would think the creedmoor and 260 are very comparable.

I ran the exact same load in a 26" 260 and saw a bit over 3000fps with similar accuracy.
 
I've tested RL17 a lot in a 260 to find out just how much temp changes MV. My temp spread was 15*f to 98*f. and it averaged 2 FPS per degree change, actually 1.98 FPS. I loaded that in the FFS ballistic software and it's always been accurate. It's a fast powder for sure but you have to get a handle on the MV changes

Would be interested in how you tested your muzzle velocity for temperature change. What is your barrel length? What bullet are you using? I've done testing on this and got much less change for temperature than you did.

For a couple years I recorded the velocity and ambient conditions. I had about 75 sessions recorded, dumped all the data in a spread sheet and ran a representative slope on velocity vs temp. The slope came out to 1.9. I used a CED M2 and the barrel length was 26" shooting Berger 140 VLD's

When you guys say that RL17 is temperature sensitive, what are you talking about? How much fps change per degree F? I have not seen thus quantified anywhere, just broad statements.

I want to hear it also. People have this Hodgdon powder up on some pedestal, I refuse to shoot the stuff.

Amen brother Miles. H4350 gives me about 1.3 fps per degree. When it's REALLY cold shooting deer at LR gets challenging because its like there is a tipping point in temperature at which my loads start to really slow down. For instance, at 30 degrees F, I have to come up a bit over one moa at 500 yards than I would when it's in the 60's.
Not sure why everyone gets so pissy when I try to explain to them that just because it says EXTREME on the can doesn't make it impervious to things that effect ALL powders.
I shot R17 and LOVED it. Great accuracy , speed, and I don't think 17 is as temp sensitive as the other Reloader powders. But I will tell you this. It's DIRRRRTTTYYY. So get ready to clean the shit out of your bore.
 
Well I finally have my own data for the 6.5 Creed. I've ran RL17 in a 6.5 x 47 for some time with good results.
Dixon built a 6.5 Creedmore for me lately, a 25" Krieger, Rem 700.
At 42.5 gr, 136gr scenar, I'm right at 2890 and I'll keep it there, the gun is a gift for a young boy, no need to horse anything.
The gun didn't pressure up till 44.5gr @ 3059

If it was mine I'd run this at 2950+, in the pressure test my extreme spreads opened up quite a bit after 42.5, not sure if this normal?
