So I have sold myself on the grendel. And have spent the better portion of my deployment collecting the pieces to get it together and right. However, I seem to be stuck on a "spr" kick. And have ordered an 18" barrel from Alexender arms. Does anyone run these? What is the general concensus on them. I'm really thinking about ordering a 24" as well and putting it with a magpul PRS stock. I have the guts for almost three rifles. (lots of projects for when i'm home again) I'm just courious what the boards here think about the gren, and what barrel length is optimal. No specific purpose really.

Re: 6.5 Gren

My local gunshop had a 18" AA barrel and bolt. When we put it together we took the barrel down to 16" and threaded for a suppressor. I wanted a shorter lighter "truck gun". I am currently loading up some Hornady 120gr Amax's with RL 15 to take to the range this morning to try it out. Will report back with velocities and accuracy.

Re: 6.5 Gren

Cool, I did up an 18" at my bother's request for him. He loves it, and now swears he'll never go back to .223. I'm facinated with the platform, just want to know how much of an edge 24" will bring out.

Re: 6.5 Gren

24" inches will of course get you a little more velocity (but not what you would think it should) and much more weight. I would only go 24 if you want to stretch the gun to its maximum range potential. anything else and it's just heavier to carry around. 20" is supposed to be optimal in the grendel. So 18 I'm sure will do you great.

Re: 6.5 Gren

I run a 28" tube with a PRS stock. I LOVE it. Great in the dirt on bi-pod and bag. Very stable long range rig. AMU contour barrel helps keep weight under control. But absolutely not a run and gun rifle. I feel the added length is worth it for wringing out everything the round can produce at LR.
A 18" would be great for a all around/3 gun/hunting/precision set up. Smokes the 556 across the board.

Re: 6.5 Gren

Look for more threads on the Semi-Auto thread for Grendel topics and you will find more info. I had just posted 2 Grendel topics not to long ago with my build and load info and how it shoots (very well).

Its by far the most accurate AR I have ever shot and built. Will shoot just as good as most bolt guns and will go out to 1,000yrds if you want it to. You cant ask for anything more in a AR-platform using a regular .223 upper/lower reciever.

also got to 65grendel.com for alot of info and a 6.5 Grendel Forum with lots of good data.

And these are the groups it capable of so far. (5-shot group @ 100yrds load test = Sub-MOA)
I have just started working up reloads for it. So far im very pleased.

Re: 6.5 Gren

I'm really excited to get home and put this together, I've stuck 2 kind of diffrent SPR proflies in my mind and now I want to work it out.

For one I'm thinking of using a Vtac handguard, with a JP flip front sight gasblock with a tritium front sight post. An ARMS #40L rear, RRA NM parts kit, Magpul UBR stock. And a Zeiss 3-9x I scored for a song that lives in a Larue SPR mount and wants a home.

sound pretty good? I've got a whole box of parts I've collected over the years, and never used.

Re: 6.5 Gren

I've got two at the house waiting on me. Both Mid's at 18"
one is a AA bead blasted and fluted, and the other is a sabere defence with a shark brake. There really isn't much diffrence between the two, so it's going to be intresting to see if i can tell between the two.

I'm feeling the vtac and flip sights for a sort of 3 gun rifle, and the other will probally get a Larue, or dd handguard with a low profile block

I will not buy the AA barrel cuz they are ER Shaw unless its their Spartan model w/ a Satern bbl.

I have never seen a AA barrel that can shoot like mine can. Probly cuz its not a ER shaw bbl.

Also its "Sabre" not "sabere"

Re: 6.5 Gren

So it's an ER Shaw... I've had no dealings with them, are they hit or miss, or all around crap? Maby lap it, or fire lap it? Could that make a diffrence? Or should I just throw it on gunbroker? I'm kind of feeling I should at least try it first...
