I am looking for a bullet for huting +/- deer sized game with my 6.5 grendel, and have narrowed my choice down to 2 bullets. The 120gr hornday GMX or the 120gr Barnes tipped TSX, I was a bit suprised to see the hornday bullet has a better BC, but I question its expansion velocity range vs the Barnes, which one would the hide hunters choose? And why?

How far are out are you planning on shooting?

FWIW, I like the 120 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip for hunting out of my grendel, shoots well and works.

I think out to 500 yards either one of those bullet choices are going to be good to go.. much past that and you need to watch the energy bleed off.

I know this is an old post but I wanted to add just a note for anyone else who may be looking at different rounds for hunting, make sure you know what the terminal velocity of your round is going to be at your desired range and make sure the bullets you are looking at will perform at those speeds. I have had the 123gr A-Max shed the entire jacket on impact with zero copper penetration the lead alone made the kill at 50 yards. I have also had the same round fail to expand at all travel through about twenty inches and exit through a pin hole. The GMX, and the Barnes may not perform any better or worse at low velocity, but I cannot say that from experience only Google images.

100 grain TTSX.
Same sectional density as a 120 Nosler, almost the same BC.
You can push it faster with that small case and no lead in your chili.

This is the one my rifle like the best so far out of the ones I have tried....I will hopefully be dropping a deer with it this season, if so I will post results.

On the other end of the velocity scale, I'll be using them out of a 6.5'06 this season.
34-3500 fps.
We can swap photos.
I want to try to get video.
