Thanks in advance for those that choose to share their wisdom. I am waiting for my paperwork to come through on an AAC M4-2000 can I have already purchased for a 6.5. Can you guys recommend the best maker of an upper, barrel length, etc. for this? I like cool things and little holes and am not a professional like so many on this site, but, I appreciate people that know what they are talking about, which explains one of the main reasons I am here asking. GAP seems to get a big thumbs up quite frequently, but not sure of their 6.5 experience. Thoughts?
For those of you that help keep my family safe, God Bless!

You can rest assured in GAP's knowledge in all things precision. Flounder will be barreling me a 6.5 upper for my IRA lower one day (soon I hope, but it's not looking good... ).

Jense Precision. His custom rifles have zero issues. Otherwise, they don't leave his shop. Excellent quality and some of the finest rifle builds out there.

Jense has a bull barrel 6.5 Grendel upper built on a Saturn barrel (licensed by Alexander Arms) that is very nice. If I had the money, I'd buy that upper myself!

Re: 6.5 Grendel upper

i had a grendel for a little while. the upper was from alexander arms, it was the 24" overwatch model. if your using it for hunting and have to make a good hike, it would get a little heavy, but they perform well in short barrel lenghts, too. even with wolf MPT (only $13 a box but super dirty) i was shooting under an inch. do you load your own ammo? finding it can be a PITA. good luck.

Re: 6.5 Grendel upper

Had an Alexander Arms overwatch 24" upper too. Great shooting upper out of the box. Shot tiny groups w/ 123 Lapua's and 130 VLD's. It's a great alternative to paying big $ for a custom. The AA has a Lothar Walther match bbl. IMO are close to top o the line. Just ask yourself do I wanna shoot tiny groups w/ a factory upper or a custom upper? I would vouch for the AA's accuracy. I got lots of load data if you want some later.

Re: 6.5 Grendel upper

I have a 19.5" AA Advanced Weapon System. I think I could probably pound a roofing nail at 100 yards with three rounds of Wolf ammo. If I actually reloaded, I'm pretty sure I'd still be excited about it. As it is, I'm considering selling it because of a lack of ammo.

I've got the upper with a GG&G scout rail, 2 C-Products 25 round magazine, in addition to the 10 rounder from AA. I also have 800 rounds of Wolf.

It is, without question, the best setup I own. But without an available ammo source . . .

I either need to reload, or sell the lot, and get an AR10.

So, my advice is, don't get it unless you reload.

Anybody have an AR10 they want to trade? :)

. . . I'd throw in a Ruger .300 SAUM . . .

Re: 6.5 Grendel upper

I do reload, so not really a problem there. I got on Jense's site and was impressed, so I sent them an e-mail and am waiting to hear back from them. Thanks for everyones input so far and I will keep you posted.

Stay safe and safe shooting!

I have - out to 800 yards and beyond, though the target is a 200 yard 6 shot group if I remember correctly. It was a RRA upper with an AA barrel, AA factory ammo was used for the target pic, but it shot the Wolf Gold really well too. I never shot anything else through it and I wasn't reloading at the time.

I wish that I had never sold it, but when you can sell a 6.5 Grendel and completely fund a Sako TRG 42 AND optic setup, you just do that shit.

Seeing the picture makes me a little sick and proud at the same time.

Sure! AA GDMR 24", Satern Barrell, 123g Scenars, 31.5g BLC-2, 2.65 oal, AA brass. Still working on load development though and waiting for better/other powders. Very happy with 830 yd cold bore first shot hit on steel plate last week. Results: Hits.

+1 to that. My Grendel was the most accurate AR platform I've ever shot - though it isn't more accurate than my TRG.

(that comment is more for myself than y'all - gotta justify it's release)

Re: 6.5 Grendel upper

Before anyone gets too excited about the Grendel, they need to see if they can afford and find the brass (if they reload) or loaded match ammo. I have read dozens of boys who said Wolf shot like crap. It shot like crap out of my Overwatch and velocity was very low. Even if Wolf shot decently the bc s for long range. You will probably have a long wait. The AA grendels generally shoot very well with AA factory loads. Problem is nobody can find any and price is quite high. I can't see where an AR 10 in 260 Rem wouldn't do a better job.

Re: 6.5 Grendel upper

I'm in the process of building an upper based on a Larue Stealth receiver and 16" or 18" Satern barrel (tube should be here around Xmas). It'll be an SPR profile, 1:8.75 twist dedicated to flinging 123 scenars. The shorter barrels don't give up much velocity to a 24" with that particular projectile.
Brass comes up every now and again, but you gotta pounce on it and stash it. I always leave a little extra cash in the toy fund for a good deal on Grendel reloading supplies.

I thought about the AR10 route, and even though the Grendel can't run with the 260, it still has sufficient 1000 yard ballistics in a lighter, more compact platform (esp. with the shorter barrels). That's the clincher for me.

Re: 6.5 Grendel upper

I have two 6.5 Grendel uppers. I just recently had GAP put together an upper for me. Today I went out and did a barrel break-in and also tested some loads. I have been able to find brass, but of course it is Lapua brass. I have also been working up loads with 123 grn Lapua Scenar, 120 grn Hornady A-max and also 123 grn SMK bullets. I also have used the WOLF ammo in the begining, but that is so I could have ammo to shoot.

Re: 6.5 Grendel upper

The only reason I am even a little bit interested is because I have Robinson XCR and IF they ever do the 6.5 conversion I was thinking I would get one so I can have a switch barrel. I LOVE my XCR and would LOVE it that much more if I could get it past 600 with any kind of accuracy. In 5.56 it shoots moa with IMI bullets. I have never tried anything else so its possible she could shoot real good with some better bullets. I reload so the 6.5 would never see factory ammo. Brass is the only issue but if push came to shove I suppose I can make my own if need be. I would imagine lupua brass lasts a LOOOOOOONG time in 6.5g

Re: 6.5 Grendel upper

I traded for a 19.5 Grendel 6.5 upper earlier this year and found out why I got an even trade. AMMO.....crickets.....
I said oh well got to be some way to reload them get some brass something. Found good info on the grendel site bought 1K IMI 7.62X39 brass and lots of 6.5 bullets smk and some nosler will try out when I get home. I am in Kuwait now doing research on the best and easiest way to convert the brass. Any suggestions are helpful.
