in reading about the "new" 6WOA, i learned that the 6.8 case is used because of greater powder capacity and ease of reloading versus the 6MM's based on the Grendel case---so my questio is has anyone necked the 6.8 case to shoot 6.5 bullets?
Mike Milli at DTECH does it and calls it the 6.5 DTI. I was following it for awhile but never seen much data results. He also necked the SPC case down to 22 cal. but I am not sure how it turned out.
I am also looking at building a long range ar15. If you run the numbers the 6mm ar turbo improved will push a 105-8 grain bullet about 2900fps. That's hard to beat with a 6.5 in an ar 15 package. I hear they are very accurate and feed reliable. But I'm still looking at other options.
Probably just stick with my Grendels, just wondering what else was out there in 6.5 that fits the AR15 chassis. Hope that 1 day Hornady or another mfr will offer the"superformance" powders to the public . Will try a 6mm next time.
The 6.5 BC is WAY better than the 6.8 rounds but the SPC produces alot better velocity in a much shorter barrel. I hunt alot with the SPC and see no advantages of the grendel at hunting ranges so I think for the ar15 platform its about as good as it gets for real world hunting. Not sure what your idea of long range is, but out to 600 the 77SMK In about 20" is a real performer...
