6.5 PRC .188 Freebore

I’m having a 6.5 PRC built on a short action. The smith I’m using has a SAAMI reamer (I’m guessing the freebore is .188, they didn’t have the drawing.) My original plan was to shoot 140 Hybrids. I’m thinking with the .188 freebore I will be jumping the 140s at least 60 thou if staying under magazine length of 2.950.

Anybody with the .188 freebore have insight for the 140 hybrids? The longer base to Ogive of the 140 elds or the 143 eldx may be a better fit to stay under mag length and stay closer to the lands.

You are correct.

Anything with secant ogives (Hybrids, 150 SMKs) are going to be jumped a massive amount if constricted by SA mag length. That’s why the GAP 4S chamber has such a short freebore.

The SAAMI PRC chamber was basically designed to shoot the ELD line of projectiles and Hornady factory ammo exclusively from a SA. Otherwise, you are looking at single feeding or medium-long action lengths... or just hoping that Hybrids/SMKs etc will shoot with 60+ thou worth of jump.
