6.5 x 47 Lapua advice

I use a Hornady/Stony Point seating tool to find WHERE my bullet contacts the lands. Or how far out can I seat a particular bullet before contacting the lands.

With the 130 Berger VLD's I contact the lands at 2.770" overall cartridge length. VLD's tend to like to be JAMMED, or in contact with the lands....So I tried .010" longer at 2.780" to get .010" worth of jam. or INTO the lands. Forgive me if my terminology was confusing.

Contacting the lands can l also raise pressures so best to back off a few 1/10 ths of a grain and evaluate where your at pressure wise.

Hi all, I have a DTA with a 6.5x47 barrel, it is 19" long and shoots 130g VLD Hunters using 38.6g of Varget one thou into the lands at an average of 2865fps. It used to be 26" long, running the same load at 2960fps, as you can see, not a great deal of loss!

130 VLD vs 140 Hybrid ... which one wins out @ 1000yds in 5-10MPH crosswinds?

Old post but didn't see an answer to this question, which is one I was in a quandary over also. Have a few 1K matches coming up soon and have not run my 6.5x47 at IK.
Is one better than the other, 140 hybrids, heavier, slower, or the lighter, faster, 130 vlds, or is it a toss up?

I'm interested in the heavy vs. light question as well.

I've not tried anything but SMK142's in my 6.5x47L with 40gr RL-17 and Wolf SR223 primers. The 142's go 2840 out of a 26" 8.5 twist Kreiger barrel. Interested to hear how the lighter bullets perform as I'd like to try either the 123's or 130's.
