6.5mm rifle,bolt action.Need suggestions.

Assuming you mean factory rifles? There are more factory rifles that offer 6.5mm calibers. You can always have a custom built or go to GA Precision's website and pick one if their spec'd rifles, then have it chambered in 6.5

With a 10K budget, you should have no problem, any of the REPUTABLE builders here should help you out. Surgeon, Montana or Defiance have good actions, select barrel and stock of choice, a good trigger cannot be overstated. Planning on competing? Keep it under 12 lbs. Scope? Too many out there, Nightforce seems to be the current favorite, I have a Bushnell 3200 elite 10X that serves me well on my 7-08. Google rifle scopes. Go back through these threads and look at the ones dealing with 'first rifle', that would be a good place to start.

Definitely the 6.5 Creedmoor if you don't reload. Excellent ammo available at good prices.

For the rifle and scope I would look in the for sale section here on the Hide. You can find excellent deals. Just because you have 10-12K to spend doesn't mean you have to. Find a good deal on a rifle and scope and then pick up a coupe thousand rounds of ammo and go shoot.

Agreed.

It would be foolish to spend 10k+ on a first rifle arrangement.

A nice little 223 with a solid scope can be had for under 2k. Ammo is inexpensive and readily available.

Once this guy gets fully "bit" by the bug, he can go drop the 10k on high end premium stuff. He'll still be happy he has his .223

Maybe he'll find he doesn't enjoy the hobby, or can't make time for it, in which case he'll be better off having only sunk 2k into it rather than 10k.

Ha ha, the guy wants a 6.5 so he should get a .223? Nope if he wants a 6.5 he should get a 6.5.

It is really up to him if he wants a:

1) .260 Rem
2) 6.5 CM
3) 6.5 Saum
4) 6.5x57 Mauser
5) 6.5x55 Swede or
6) 6.5x54 Mannlicher-Schoenauer

If it were me I would choose between the first three.

This is retarded, he wants to spend $10-12k on a 6.5 and somebody tells him to spend $2k on a fucking 223... My guess is if he can afford to drop that kind of coing he's not hurting for cash.

From a financial standpoint what is a more wise decision:

1. Spend $5500 on a AX 6.5 creed at mile high which he can almost certainly always recoup his cash or come within a couple hundred bucks.

Or.

2. Spec out a custom rifle, wait 6 months, and lose $1-2k right off the bat if he wanted to sell it. Custom rifles don't hold their value at all compared to AI's, look at the classifieds...

If you're smart with your purchases you can recoup your cash.

OK, I agree there is a lot to be said for your option 1. I had just finished reading all 26 pages of posts on GAP's new Xtreem 6.5 and they had me chomping at the bit to get one. Given the reputation of the people involved in the 6.5 Saum it is worth consideration also.

Mile high has a deal for the rest of the year on ae series rifles, buy a 2.0 for 3200-20% and get a sphur 20moa mount and a s&b and still have 5k left to buy reloading equipment and components or buy tons of loaded bullets.

gentlemen,
great info. I have got the bug: I spent a week at ACADEME (formerly ,BW) working with a .50 cal custom course. My instructor was great ,and he got me out to hit at 1200 yds.The funny thing is , it made me go back to my REMINGTON 700, and SAVAGE MODEL 110, both 30/06, work them out to the max 200 yds that I can get on a property I own.Just the gun , no bipods, prone in the dirt with a dirt mound and a bag to rest it on. I loved it!
I guess I got the bug.
I am looking at either the Xtreme Hunter ,6.5 SAUM or the AI Creedmor that was suggested. I have a AW AI ,.308, that after another course 2 yrs ago that got me out to 1000 yds, at BW.I got that at Mile High and the system is wonderful!
Guys I am starting semi-retirement, half time at my job. I am looking forward to learning as much as I can about long range shooting.Another funny effect is that my trigger control with my pistol is getting better. All thanks to my most recent instructor and getting my body beaten up with the .50 cal for that week at ACADEME. I plan to go back, for long range training , with the same instructor, who really knows how to get me to learn.
Again,
thank you for any comments that you fellas can make.

If you already have an AW, just spend ~$750 on a new 6.5CM or .260 Rem barrel (Mile High stocks them, or you can have a smith such as GA Precision or Crescent Customs spin one from a blank of your chosen profile), and another a couple hundred bucks on some tools. Oh, and you'll need a few minutes of your own time to make the swap. Piece of cake!

I'd go with a SAC or Jon Beanland build... AI makes a fine action, but their stocks are a love/hate thing (but you have one already so you must love em).
