Anyone here run this round? Just got a new action and I'm thinking about chambering this. What is the overall performance for hunting/target?

One thing I have noticed, there are alot of 6.5x47s for sale and I realize being the new kid on the block, many have been done out of curiousity and interest, but wondering myself Eric if it or the 260 is the way to go. The Creed looks good, but proprietary brass as the case w/47L is not encouraging, vs. a 260 where you can use many sources, or neck up/down 308 siblings.

I am still on the fence but may K.I.S.S. and do a 260 as I built a 6.5-308 around '95 before the 260 was intro'd.

Likely brass quality will determine how well it shoots next to a 47, and the 47 has to be pushed to try equaling the 260 due to case capacity difference. No flies on the 47, and they WILL shoot, but I wonder real world is there 'enough difference' over quality loads in a 260. I have been looking a LONG time at the 47, and it's advantage although encouraging w/brass quality, etc. is not 'jumping out at me' at the moment.

When you do build, let us hear your results.

I think if you ask most shooters why they are selling their 6.5x47 it is because of rifle A.D.D. not because they feel the round comes up short in any regard.

I can see that, nothing wrong with always looking for something new. Not a slam on the 47, it's a good one, just an observation.

With a supply of good brass, I could be happy with either.

I have shot most of the 6.5's, I see the benefit of the 6.5 x 47 L is the brass. Lapua brass is amazing quality and the small primer probably gives a lower ES than a large primer in the same case. I shoot the 6.5L for competition (F-class) so I like the accuracy and the powder efficiency.

I am tempted to build up a 6.5 CM and shoot two sets of brass both formed from lapua .308 one set with a small primer base and the other a large primer base. The idea is to see if the difference in primers does in fact lead to a lower ES as conventional wisdom says.

The 47 is an excellent round. It preforms close to the other cals. but burning less powder. That's impressive. I have enough 260s. The 47 would be my next choice in a 6.5. I have seen them shoot. All the ones I have seen shoot extremely good.

I'm closing in on 3800 rounds down mine. 3100+ on the first barrel and the rest on the new Rock 8 twist. There was still life left in the first barrel but Iw as starting a new match season andhad a spare barrel. I have changed up my go to load from the first one. I now shoot the 123 Sierra and I think the 6.5x47L works better with the 123-130 class bullet over the 139-142's.
If you relaoad, there really isn't enough differance between the three main 6.5's to matter.

I agree on the 6.5x47 i have had two, if you want to shoot 120-130 bullets it does it with ease and it seems to be easy to work up an accutate load. I shot a mule deer with mine in the alpine lakes wilderness at 215 yards with the 130 berger, put it down real good.

I have less than 2000 rounds on a 6.5 x 47L. I am ordering a new barrel Monday morning to go in the closet. Whenever my barrel goes south (however long that may be), I will have the new tube chambered in 6.5 x 47 also. It has impressed me in the accuracy department and I have all the components for reloading.

If I was starting over from scratch, I would feel good picking any of several 6.5s - 260R, 6.5CM or the x47L; however, I know I would choose the Lapua once again.

Made it to Angeles Shooting Range today to zero and gather dope out to 600 with the 6.5x47L.

Scope was a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14 with mildots. Burris signature zee rings with inserts.

37.2 gr. Varget
123 Scenar
CC1 450 primer
Lapua Brass
OAL - 2.690

After zeroing I fired one five shot group (below)then gathered dope to 600.

Fired from a bench using a bipod and triad round rear bag.
14x for 100 yard group.

Rifle has potential.

100 - 0
200- 1.5 moa
300 - 3 moa
400 - 6 moa
500 - 8.5 moa
600 - 11 moa

ok im sure this is a stupid question but 1 moa is 1 inch at 100 yards, so 1.5 moa at 200 yards is 3 inches right? is that good? sorry if this is a misunderstanding, im just trying to better comprehend this.

That is his elevation to the distance mentioned, not group size. Good question.

your 600yd is 1MOA less than my 308. 6" less drop. That's cool. I'm really thinking about doing a 6-6.5x47L on my next build. But the 6.5x47L really looks good too.

Shooter, what did that chrono? I'm thinking you'll be closer to 12.5 moa to 600. Also thinking you could put another grain and a half behind that 123 or did the accuracy start to go.

7.9 Mil to 1K depending on conditions

I started off with the 123 Scenars, and wind kicks their ass out past 800. 142 shrug it off. My chamber was cut with the 120/123 reamer, and holds them 142 SMKs just dandy, .20 thou off the lands, a mile in the mag.

I consider myseld a 6.5 guy, and this, imo, is the best one out there, all things considered, velocity vs. powder charge, bullet selection, brass, effeiciency, barrel life, etc. etc.

47L's are dandy rounds for good speed, tight groups and LOOOOOOW numbers. Love the hell out of mine and when the barrel is toast i'll screw me on another 47 tube. Then when that one goes... you got it ANOTHER 47! Seems like the three are just to darn close to call. The 260 is prolly better if you want to use the 140's and up but with the Berger and JLK 130's, they will run with the best. If you want top notch brass and an easy round to find a load for the 47L is hard to beat in the 6.5 class. One thing about my bitch that I don't likie is with the Pacnor barrel I can't get the speeds like many other barrels can give. But as state above I to rather have one holer's than speed... unless I can enjoy both together, you know like a blond and a red head!!!!

I am running a 26" barrel and 37.7 gr of RL-15 at 2950fps.

I was using 38.4 grs in one rifle and 38.8 grs in another when I used RL-15. Both are 24" barrels, but different manufacuters and different throat lenghts. I was running about 2925 (reverse calculated from the drop using Quicktarget and the drag data from Lapua) with a 123 Scenar molyed. I tried higher powder charges, but the cases started to show ejector marks.

Yea, I was getting some sticky bolt. Backed it off to 39 grains of R-15, still getting the same drop, 11 mils to 1245 yards. I think I was too hot, gaining pressure and stagnant on the velocity.
