1-8 on both my 6.5x47's. Because thats what was avaliable and ready to ship.
now if I was gonna have a blank made id probably go with a 1-9.5 or 1-10 just because I only run the 123 class bullets. although Im gonna try some 140 berger hybrid's in my single shot 6.5x47 at some ELR distances this summer.
I have a 8 twist and a 9 twist 6.5x47L. Either twist will work but would recommend 8 if you are going for the long 140 grainers (believe the longest 140grainer is the Berger Hybrid at ~1.43"). If you are just running the 123gr, 9 is fine, as those are in the ~1.32" OAL.
My 6.5x47 Lapua is a hart barrel 1-8 twist. I knew I wanted to run a high BC 140gr Berger LRBT bullet. I'm running RL17 with 41.2grs at 2977 with a SD of 3 and ES of 11. I wouldn't start with that load but be safe and work your way up.
8 twist out of a 30 inch Krieger for my first. I wanted to be able to run the 130 Bergers with the option to run the 140 Bergers as well once I got some velocity information.
I've shot about 3,000 130 JLK's and 1,000 140 JLK's through an 8.5 and it stabilized them fine down to -500 DA, which is about the lowest I've shot in.
i have 2 of them,both are 1-in-8.5's, a beanland and a scalpel . both 26" kriegers.they both like 123 scenars and 123 nosler custom comps and varget........dave
I know I’m digging up an old post, but. How did the 6.5x47 shoot with the 18” barrel. I am getting ready to build one with either an 18” or 20” barrel. What would your recommendation be in twist rate and what bullets should I use. Thanks in advance.
