Is anyone shooting the 6.8 SPC? I am looking at building an upper for 6.8 SPC what distances are you getting out of it? I have heard good things in some magazines, but would like to see if anyone is actually using it.

Re: 6.8spc

6.8 isn't a long range cartridge by any stretch, you are looking at 300-350yd max for clean kills on medium sized game. Makes a nice lightweight hunting setup though, recoil is very mild...bullets from 85-130gr give you some options on bullet weight and speed. The lighter bullets in the <100gr side can hit up to 3000fps, the heavier 130gr can still get up to 2500fps with the right barrel specs.

If you are planning to build a 6.8mm as a hunting rifle from the ground up, an 18" midlength is almost ideal. If you are just building a 'typical' home defense/shtf carbine 16" is fine, and the 115gr OTM loads by SSA will be more than adequate for that role.

Re: 6.8spc

I hunt exclusively with a 6.8mm in Virginia where the majority of my shots are below 300 yards. I feel very comfortable with shooting the 6.8mm in that range and know that it will kill. I am using the Barnes TTSX or Nosler Accubond 110 GR bullets. I do use a 16" Pac Nor barrel and it is more than accurate enough. I can shoot 1 - 1.25 MOA with the above loads at 100.

Re: 6.8spc

Powder Burns hit the nail on the head. I have an 18" midlength gas system 6.8 and I have yet to hunt with it but the groupings I'm getting with this thing are great. I've had it for a couple of months now and I've groupedem at less than 3/4" at 100 yards with 100gr Accubond and 110gr Accubond handloads. If you wanna find out alot more about the cartridge 68forums.com is where I've found the most info on it. The only place I've ever been to hunt where Id be at a disadvantage with it is a wheat field, which I've only hunted in once, but even then the shot I took on a doe was 137 yards, which is definately inside the max range for the 68.

Re: 6.8spc

I use one for hunting. Love it. I have an ARPerformance barrel in an AR platform. Its a Pac Nor with the chamber work by a guy named Harrison. Shoots MOA. Search for ARperformance. Harrison is a very innovative guy, and very helpful with reloading questions. It can shoot an 85gr at 3000fps. I shoot 110 Pro hunters at about 2700fps.
