Looks good! No sign of swelling or infection. Gently clean with Hydrogen peroxide to get the iodine an scabs off. Looks like its coming along just fine.

Why would you want hydrogen peroxide on a healing surgical wound? I'm not a doctor or anything, but killing cells on something with no signs of infection that is not fresh doesn't seem like a good idea.

Shooter, follow the doc's orders, heal up, and get good as new again soon! I wish you a fast recovery.

Went through something very sililar almost two years ago. The sawbones said that were I a little older, he would not have performed the surgery.

Hang in there for the recovery, and give thanks to God that he raises up good surgeons to help put us back together.

The hydrogen peroxide will break down the blood and scab tissue minimizing scarring. You're not trying to saturate things with it. Just put some on some cotton and very gently blot it on the area This will remove the iodine on the skin and break down the blood that is on the surface. do not scrub. just gently blot. If you get blood on your clothes hydrogen peroxide is also the best way to get it out. On your clothes follow it with water. No need to do this on the skin. It also helps remove/kill the bacteria that will grow in the dead tissue adhering to the sutures. It is not going to "kill cells". The skin cells on the surface are already dead. Oh, and I am a doctor. But, the advise here is free and maybe worth what you pay for it. But in my experience hydrogen peroxide used as I described works very well, avoid the need for any scrubbing whatsoever and makes suture removal easier when the time comes. But you should check with your own doctor first. There does that cover the fine print?

Hmmm. Looks much better than the current results of my recent surgery.

I had an inguinal hernia repaired last Friday but I can't seem to be able to get the correct angle with my camera to photograph my swollen and blackened balls.

I know the feeling.Here is the result of my SECOND spinal fusion.6 hours under the knife. 6 days in the hospital-this is the first day home.Drains were removed after 3days.The second pic is the hardware they took out so they could add 14 more pieces of titanium. That was back in March 09.The healed scar was from the first bone grafts taken from my iliac crest from the 1st fusion in 1998.

Looks like the "iodine" is actually a quick prep they do most of the time instead of a scrub and paint. Sometimes they do scrub and also paint with Duraprep. I'm guessing from the experience I've had over the last 25 years the operating room that this is what it is. Hydrogen peroxide won't take it off. There is an alcohol based lotion that takes it off. Lots of orthopedic surgeons leave it on tho. It helps depress the bacterial flora on the skin while the incision heals. The last time I personally had it used on me was to take out some screws and a plate from a broken ankle that had healed. The stuff is sticky as hell and it glued my toes together. That bugged me more than the pain of the operation.

That is a lot of hardware. How is your back?

No more intractable leg pain. Occasional sciatica. CONSTANT chronic back pain. And I lost ALOT of the flexibility I had after the first surgery.

Staying reasonably fit is tough. I can no longer twist at the waist. I've just gotten back to shooting on my belly again,problem is I'll never be able to tolerate alot of walking or time on my feet. Right after retirement, I was still able to instruct firearms at the poilce academy-can't now. I still run qualification for retired-carry permits. Here in NJ,retired officers must qualify the same as active duty officers and it is required to carry nationwide under:H.R.218: The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004. I qualify only a select group though-I have no tolerance for guys that want to be signed off without practicing ONLY for qualification.

Without my pension I'd be screwed. Even desk work is unbearable at this point. Even though both fusions are solid and healed, I'm still considered a "failed back". No more flying, skydiving, hiking-but it beats a wheelchair. Thanks for asking.

The second fusion got me off full time meds. Nerve pain is not resolved by narcotics. The meds for that like Neurontin have terrible side effects as do the narcotics.

Now,pain controls my activity-simple: in pain-no activity- rest, ice or heat. After a while you know what your body can take. "pushing" through the pain is bullshit. Your mind can control only so much.Long term narcotic pain control makes you a zombie.You may be able to do more-but you'll feel like shit 24 hours a day. I've been full circle, physical therapy,pain management,holistic, accupuncture,epidural's, you name it.

These days, if my back hurts-nothing gets done. I know what aggravates it and what doesn't. It is what it is. I've actually had a doctor tell me- "That's why they call it a disability pension". Initially, that pissed me off, but in reality-he was 100% correct.There is a time you have to surrender to some degree-I don't want to go through this again. If I have to spend the day horizontal doing nothing-so be it. Makes you realize you can't take your health for granted.That high-speed, no fear fuck it all, attitude was fun while it lasted....
