Can't help you, but I'm waiting on PTG for tooling to cut 6.5mm and 7mm Super LR chambers.

Seems like its catching on. We'll need an SLR thread in the reloading depot before long.

I have a barrel ordered. 1/8 twist Brux, to shoot the 105/107 Noslers (I'm too cheap to shoot the DTAC's). Pretty sure I'll run the H-1000 to try to extend the barrel life. It's to be my project for the year. Whidden has the best prices on dies that I've found. I'll have to order a reamer.

Since it's a new project, thinking it's going to run ~$1000 without an action, stock or trigger.

Just ordered the barrel last week, was told a 14-week wait for them.

Kreiger 1-8 26" rechambered from a 6XC to 6SLR. I shot 105 Lapuas and 107 Sierras using H1000. Accuracy was outstanding. Shot as well fireforming as it did with fireformed cases. I was shooting mostly 3 shot groups for my long range practice and at 600yds I was shooting .75 to 1.5" groups. I was very happy with the rifle but the barrel had close to 2000rds through it when I rechambered it to the 6SLR. I put another 800 or 900rds through it then pulled the barrel. I would do another one again in a heartbeat. THe best or most popular powder seems to be H4831SC but for some reason mine loved H1000. Good luck with your project!!

Bartlein 1-8" twist, 5r, 24" barrel. 105grn berger hunting vld, 47.4grn h1000 gives me 2950 in win brass. Excellent results. Same powder load for a 105 amax in rem brass will give me 3050fps. It will save some barrel life shooting slower powder. The 4831sc or h4350 are both good for velocity. Using fed210 match primers. My blended powder will give me 3150fps very easily in a 24" barrel suppressed.

Please forgive my ignorance, but isn't 47.4gr of powder a LOT of powder to get a 105gr 6mm bullet going 2850?

I think I understand the concept is to use a slow powder that won't torch the throat, but wouldn't a lower charge weight of faster powder, still achieving 2850, also be easier on the barrel?

Also, what is your "blended powder"?

Today I was able to get 20 rounds down the tube. Here is what I got....keep in mind I was really just breaking things in and getting an idea of where I stood load wise. It looks very promising and I'm sure it's going to be a hit with me:

43.5 grains of H4831SC = 2990 ish...good groups
46 grains of H1000 = 2900 ish Very good 5 shot group
46.5 grains of H1000 = 2950 ish....good groups

These are all with Fed 210M primers and 105 Hybrids.

I want to get my speeds up a bit (3025-3050), so I have loaded up some more rounds to try tomorrow. I will post the results as well.

It is a lot of powder but it is a cooler powder then the h4350 or 4831sc. I looked back in my book and 47.4 of H1000 will give me 2994 fps, not 2850, the 8 and 9 are next to each other and my finger accidently touch the 8 and not the 9. Sorry my numbers were all screwed up that day. I'll go back and change that. I must have been thinking about something else.

Went out yesterday, but I have to start by mentioning my Chrony Drama....NOTE: I shoot through a newer CED M2 Chrony.

So my initial speeds seemed a little low to me (I have a 27" barrel). So keeping that in mind, I loaded some hotter rounds and went out yesterday with the following results:

H4831 SC - 44 grains....chrony'd at 2980...What the crap....A hotter load is going slower than the previous day's test. Very frustrated, I started second guessing myself. I stopped, kicked dirt and cussed a bit!

Well my buddy was shooting along side of me using his Beta Chrony and a .243...he was getting speeds that I thought I should be getting. Long story short...I moved over and started shooting through his Chrony, and here are the results:


105 Berger Hybrids:
44 grains 4831 - 3128, 3030, 3095, 3062, 3075. Much better and expected speed. You can see my SD and ES are high. My initial guess is that the cases are still forming a bit, but that is just my guess. I am going to load some once fired brass to see if I'm correct. Groups are just Ok...definitely need to get better.

47 grains H1000 - 3128, 3008, 3055, 3037, 3069. The speed is there but, again, check out the ES and SD....way too high!!

It maybe because of the brass fireforming, but I have not had that issue with either win or rem brass going through the first firings on the brass. My ES/SD's are usually very low for the fireforming loads, and even lower with formed loads. I'd say pay closer attention to your powder measuring. (what are you using, balance beam or digital)? Another thing that I noticed that really messed with my ES/SD's were the primers that I used. I had the best results with Fed210Match primers, followed by Tula primers. The worst were the CCI BR2's for some reason. Fed215Match mag primers were good, and they added exactly 100fps over the Fed210Match.

With your 47 grn of H1000 giving you those velocities is good, very similar to mine, you're running a hair faster just because you're running a bit longer barrel. That's good to know. Thanks for posting that info.

I found that my other accuracy load is right in the 3150fps range, just FYI.

BTW....I'm pretty anal measuring my powder. I measure using a Chargemaster then double weigh it on a Beam Scale. Little extra step but I THINK it pays off.??

I am using a .271 bushing that seems to be giving very adequate tension (feel wise). I would like to try a .272 to see how less tension works out. My .20BR is a true tack driver, and I am using pretty light neck tension which makes me want to try it on the 6 SLR.

I think i'm running a .272 on mine if i rememeber right. I can take a look the next time i mess around with it. Being anal about measuring powder is a good thing. I do the exact same thing as you, i always have an extra scale to check.

Thanks DJ 480. It is MY opinion that the Berger 105 Hybrid makes the 115 just another choice with no advantages. The Hybrid matches the 115's BC. Therefor my thinking is that why use a bullet that is much harder to find, heavier, slower and no ballistic advantage. Before the Hybrid came out, I was contemplating the 115's but I have had a few 6mm caliber rifles and felt the speed difference between the 105 and 115 made up for the small difference in BC. Now with the Hybrid there really is nothing to think about......for me anyway.

Turbo, I do have my own reamer and go gauge. Never really thought about renting it out. Don't even know what the going rate is or how to protect myself of timely return.

Are you ready for a reamer or are you just putting a feeler out?
