If you guys had to pick one 6mm variant specifically for 600 yard Fclass what would it be? I am currently shooting a 260Ai but am saving that for 1k comps and just really want a 6mm. I spent a lot of time on accurate shooter.com but want to here some of your guys opinions.

You need to fireform for the 6 Dasher, and there's plenty of great brass available for the 6BR. Now the increase in velocity of the dasher would be of little importance to me at 600 yards. 243 Win also has good brass but if barrel life is an issue, then you're just overall better off with the 6 BR IMHO. Not to say the others won't work but the BR seems like the better choice when you consider everything. To me the 6BR is sort of perfect for mid range paper killing. JMHO

Hope this helps,
Dylan

I don't shoot open, but if I did and went 6mm, I would probably go with a 6x47L. I have seen many in the "winner's circle". With that said, I would not feel slighted using a BR or the Dasher. I have only fired a Dasher on one occasion and it impressed me by cranking out two sub-1" groups at 420 yards.

Robert C. Whitley had Redding do a run of dies:

For 600yards, also look into 6.5x47 Lapua... brass is more expensive compared to 6mm BR but just as accurate and a little more oomph. Will do as well as .260 Rem. at 1000 with less powder (I have both). Fairly easy to load for also.

just to throw a fly into the oinment have you thought about a 223. If you check the programs the 223 is similar in performance to a 6br. The upside is with such a light recoiling rifle you could build one under 18lbs and have a 2nd gun to shoot in F/TR if you wanted to do so. As it is for mid range 600 and closer the 223 might surprise you.

Just a thought.

I've had a couple 6BRs and they are indeed tough to beat in 300/500/600yd matches.

My 6 Dasher has a *slight* edge... but if I ever get another one, I'll be damn sure getting a hydraulic forming die or a lot of COW for fire-forming cases. I did the neck-up to .25 cal, neck down enough to form a false shoulder, fire-form, then neck turn, routine. Neat for about 50 rds... starts sucking badly for 300+ rds.

The 6-6.5x47L I had was a friggin' laser. Mine was short throated by request, so it had slightly less boiler room than some might. It ran the same bullet (B105VLD) at the same speed (3070-3080fps) from a slightly shorter barrel (28" vs 31") with somewhat more powder (39.5gn H4350 vs. 33.2gn RE-15) as compared to my 6 Dasher. Way easier to form the cases - neck down and go shoot, and if there was any accuracy difference I couldn't tell it.

If F/TR is an option, a good .223 Rem w/ a 7" tw throated for 80s or 90s can be very competitive @ 600 and in.

+1

Since I hardly ever get to a square range that is longer than 600 yards, my Palma rifle will become a 6BR prone rifle when the barrel dies.

Re: 600 yd Fclass Cal 6BR vs 6Dasher vs 243 vs other 6

I just don't know if I want to fireform again like I have to with my 260AI, it gets a little annoying after awhile. I think I am going to go with the 6BR with a barrel block setup. Hopefully getting the block next week and have already started on making the stock.

Re: 600 yd Fclass Cal 6BR vs 6Dasher vs 243 vs other 6

The dasher only offers a slight increase in velocity and at only 600 yards you're only barely gaining an advantage. There's no point in wasting the time fireforming just so you don't have to dial a slight bit more windage over the 6 BR. Again, JMHO, but it sounds like you've decided on the 6BR anyways. Hope you post up pics/range report when you have it built!

Re: 600 yd Fclass Cal 6BR vs 6Dasher vs 243 vs other 6

You could always get a 6br and dies, and if you dont think there is enough boiler room in the br, punch it out to a brx. you can use the same dies as the 6br and the 6brx use the same shoulder. I have also used the 6br and loved it. Perfect for the 600 yard mark.

Re: 600 yd Fclass Cal 6BR vs 6Dasher vs 243 vs other 6

I use 243WIN, but if 600 yard is the max distance I'd recommend 6BR. That cartridge is incredibly accurate and easy to load for and easier on barrels. It's not ideal for magazine feeding, but that was not a criteria of yours....so 6BR for sure.

Re: 600 yd Fclass Cal 6BR vs 6Dasher vs 243 vs other 6

Or you could use the 6.5x47 lapua. Great round out to 1000 yds. Feeds great out of mags, plus you get great B.C. Just a thought.

Re: 600 yd Fclass Cal 6BR vs 6Dasher vs 243 vs other 6

You wont go wrong with any of the 6br or child cases. You could even go with a 22 br chambered for the 90 gr bullets. They have killer B.C. and with about the same barrel life. Not a whole bunch of 90 gr bullets yet but I think they will have them soon.
