6BR Bullets and BC's

I'm shooting both the Lapua 105 grain Scenars and the Hornady 105 grain Match ammo in my 6BR Rifle. Both shoot good, more testing is needed.

How can the Scenars have such a dramatic BC (.472) lower than the Hornady Match (.530)? If they both shoot well, is it a no brainer to use the Hornady just on BC value?

Thanks, Darin

Re: 6BR Bullets and BC's

in the 1st edition litz book

the hornady .243 105 amax has a g7 of .252 and a g1 of .492
the .243 105gr scenar has a g7 of .248 and a g1 of .484

so i would say the BC your looking at for the amax is exaggerated and the BC's are practically identical.

i would think the amax's would be cheaper , so i'd shoot those if both bullets shot the same in your gun.

Re: 6BR Bullets and BC's

I agree the AMax and Scenar bullets are close in BC's, however, look up the Hornady Match BC (.530). I'm thinking it's exaggerated.

I agree on the cost issue, Hornady's are working for half the cost.

Thanks

X-fan, which bullet do you/rifle prefer in Bergers. Looks like they have three in the 105 grain, BT Target, VLD Target and Hybrid Target. I guess that's where the testing comes into play.

Thanks for the info, Darin.

Re: 6BR Bullets and BC's

I was told (by a seriously demented accuracy freak) to use the 105 Hunting and Varget. I loaded up my for first test targets in 0.01 grain increments and 15shots later produced my first 0.1 group...So I bought 2000!

You will be hard pressed to find a rifle this doesn't shoot this setup and the combo is pretty forgiving (for a 6mmbr).

My bud has been experimenting with the 108 Bergers and claims a bit better accuracy at 600yds, but I will shoot out this barrel before I mess with my components again.
This thing shoots better than I can anyway.

X-fan That's some serious shooting. I have never shot a group that small . What rifle are you using? What brass? Need details. Thx.

.01 grain increments? A kernel of varget weighs roughly .02 grains so I find that hard to believe.

Sorry that is 0.10!

Barnard action, Robertson Composites master 1000 stock, Krieger barrel, NF 12-42X56 BR, 2OZ Jewel, Lapua brass, Redding, Co-Ax, Denver scale (soon to be upgraded)...That is about it.

I should also give some serious credit to my gun smith...though unless you live in Canada that will be of no help to you.

I don't want to lead anyone into thinking I can do that on demand....I sure as hell can not, though they are coming more frequently these days.
