The above are 2 great rounds in their own right no doubt. Curious about the others. Do tell of your rifle specs and bullets/powders of choice if you can.

I'm a brass patriot, meaning I don't like being beholden to one source of brass, and I'm not ok with doing a lot of "brass prep" so elaborate forming/trimming is out.

For me, that eliminates many of the choices. I understand 6mm Creedmoor is gaining a lot of traction, and it obviously works very well.

I'm not a 6mm guy, but if I were, I'd be setting up a 6mm SLR (Super Long Range), which is essentially a 243, with the shoulder sharpened a little, the shoulder pushed back a little, and the neck lengthened a little. Forming it requires running a piece of 243 brass into a 6mm SLR FLS die.

Cheap, readily available brass that's easy to prep, and you don't feel bad shucking it out into the weeds.

We all know the 6 PPC is probably the most accurate cartridge out to about 300 yds. The 6BR is super accurate out to about 600yds as is the Dasher but the Dasher is got enough gas to be a top contender out to 1000yds. But as far as hunting, There is really not much difference in performance in the hunting world. Depends on what you hunt and how far you shoot. Having the right twist and bullet weight determines most of that.

Killed deer at 400 yds w/a 105 amax from a BR at 2850mv.

Paper, varmints, deer/hogs, primary use. Ranges, 99% under 400, the bulk under 300.

BR always got my nod over PPC b/c of wind and ability to handle heavier bullets. Thinking the 47, XC, etc. will carry it to the next level. Agree on the brass sourcing, rather not form XC from 22-250 but you could if pressed.

Just seems the XC is a better mouse trap for accuracy and brass stretch/life over a std 243. Not a big fan of AIs and forming cases...time. Something I have less the older I get...

Can anyone who has shot the XC say if there is a noticeable diff in trajectory in the field to modest ranges? Over say a BR? Figuring 200 fps diff. though an XC can push 115s....

Love the BR, but I am going to rechamber my current 6mmBR Norma to a 6XC to get slightly better performance and more reliable feeding.

Id have a 6 Creedmoor built in a sec if I wanted a new deer rifle.
6 Creed on right, 250 case ran thru the 6mm expander ready to fireform on left.

I put a 1in8 lilja 3 groove on my trued 700sa this summer, im shooting 105s at 3100 into 1/4 mo. What awesome trajectory! but is it a better hunting round than any of the others? I would say The bullet your shooting out of them is going to matter a lot more than the case it comes out of.

I love my 6BR. Built it on a Savage varmint action from Jim Briggs, it feeds great from the factory DBM. I took it on an antelope hunt this year in New Mexico and was shooting Berger 105 hunting VLDs at about 2880; performance was awesome. One shot behind the shoulder at about 390 yards; the antelope staggered a few yards and flipped over dead. Another awesome part of the hunt was using the same rifle for long range prairie dogs later that same day. All the other guys with their whiz bang magnums couldn't enjoy the varmint shoot. The small 6mm rounds are great for hunting lighter game like antelope and small deer. I vote 6BR.

Hey guys,

Here's a couple of pics of my favorite 6 Dasher. This round can do it all from varmints up to deer. I took my deer this year at 437 yds. with this rifle. One step and it dropped. My load for my Dashers is 32.5 Varget, 105 Berger/A-max, CCI-450, Lapua brass, 2950 fps. If this load won't shoot in your rifle, there is something wrong with the gun. Typical 5 shot group shown below.

Shot the coyote below at 580 yds. bedded. If you miss with this rifle it's not the gun.

No. A 6 Crusader is a 6mm Remington fireformed to increase case capacity and change the shoulder angle. It was developed by George at GAP.

Thanks guys, nice rifles above, love pics. Bolt fluter - do tell on your rifle specs, looks like a handy 'heavy sporter' bbl but very portable.

Poster above did not ID what round they were using...

No doubt the case/headstamp is no matter after the bullet launches, I just think after many firings, there is a better mouse trap to a repeater, that has less stretch than a 243. I also feel other rounds will marginally edge out the 243 in accuracy, so if building a custom, I want a one hole gun, and I know a BR will do it, as others.

It's splitting hairs but why not? Just want the best, but least hassle as well.

6BR good barrel life and it will reach out a ways. However, I like the .243 Ackley Improved, but even with the 40 degree shoulder barrel life just aint very great. (I think i may have a 6x47 lapua hunting weight barrel put put on my Sako when the AI barrel is completely toast). I use H or IMR 4831, 95 grain Nosler BT's, 105amaxes/Bergers, and 107 Sierra MK's, and all have performed well. Lilja 8 twist 3 groove barrel IIRC.

There's nothing wrong with the standard .243, not glamorous but it will get the job done waaayyyy out there with the right twist & bullet. All of em are good...just depends on what you want to do.

I like my 6MM's, 6 RAT, 6Dasher, 6XC, 6X47L, .243. Except for the RAT all the others are all within 100 fps of each other. The 6X47 and the .243 push the 115's better but the 105's are real close. The 243 and the 6X47L are the easiest to load as far as case forming. The Dasher is the most efficient with powder, 33 gr. of 8208 pushes a Berger 105 @ 3000. Dasher is also the easiest to load for, SD's settle in about 2 full grains before you hit max load. Dasher is my favorite but I'm warming up to the 6X47L. 105's @ 3055 with 39 gr. of N550, rifle doesn't move much.
6RAT is a AR 15 with a 22" barrel, about the same as a 6 Turbo, 105's around 2750, 87 V-Max @ 3000. Dasher and 6X47L are 24" med Palma Rem. 700 actions in Manners T2A mini chassis stocks. 6XC is a Ruger #1, and the 243 is a DTA.
I found the 243 to be the hardest to find a load for and it grips me to have to use 45 gr. of powder to do the same thing I'm doing with 33 grains in the Dasher. Barrel life in the Dasher will be at least three times that of the 243.
If I could only have one 6mm it would be the 6 Dasher.

I have a Cooper in 6BR. I've tried about 4 different bullets so far and am not able to stabilize anything heavier in weight than the 68 gr. Barts that I'm currently using. It's a 1 in 14" twist. The Barts are seated in Lapua brass and if memory serves a charge of 28.5 gr. of H322. I've tried different seating depths and 25 thousands off the lands seems to have worked the best so far. I'm still in the working up a load stage. Had I known better I would have gotten a much faster twist to use the heavier bullets.

Specs for my 6 Dasher: Borden action, Krieger sporter barrel, Manners T4, Jewell trigger, Leupold MK4-10x w/ TMR reticle. Makes for a nice carry rifle at a total weight 9.25lbs.

A person would have to make one hell of a convincing story to get me away from my 6-284. Slinging 107's at 3400fps from a 28"tube... I'm a velocity freak, what can I say.... Only thing i've changed is I sold the Leupy & threw on an NXS 5.5-22.

3400 should be pretty easy with 6-284, my 243ai 28" tube would push the 115dtacs 3250 if i pushed it. typically you can get 243 to push 107 3200 in long barrel so the 6cm should be similar. be forewarned the 6cm brass will appear to handle more pressure than 243 so you can run it really hot but the brass won't last long.

Sendit's right, 3400 is pretty doable it isn't exactly mild but it isn't as hot as I can take it either. I believe I use 3425 or 3440 for my drop data. I'm running Ramshot Magnum with 210m's & Lapua cases. COAL is 3.100-ish. I've seen some pretty promising data with the 6-284 & RL-33 as well...

I have zero experience with the Creed', I really can't help with that one.

I used to get 3850 fps in my 6-284 with 75 Amax. Still blew up PD's 700 yards away!

Had a 6 BR "yawn" but that 6-284 ruined me.

Settled on 6x47L. Good all around compromise.

Have a 20x47L reamer on order. Just something about 55 Bergers(.381Bc) at 3900 fps that appeals to me
