Hunting & Fishing 6x47 for deer?

a buddy of mine uses his 6xc match gun to hunt deer. 108gr Amax or whatever the fancy Hornady heavy 6mm hunting bullet these days is. He has killed a lot of MT deer with it, perhaps because he is very good with it and its a tack driver. I'm sure your 6x47 match gun will result in equally good results on deer.

I have a buddy who built a light, short 6XC pushing a 105 Hybrid @ 2960fps to use when he guides kids on youth mule deer hunts in AZ. Last year, they took 3 or 4 from 160 to just over 400. The kids rocked the bucks.
I liked it so much, I built a sweet 6CM for myself. I can push a 105 Hyb @ 3101 easily. I plan on using it for pronghorn in a month.

Killed a couple does at 404 and 598 a couple years back. The 404 doe dropped like a sack of potatos, and the 598 ran 30ish yds. This year I’ll be using a 6CM with 103 ELDXs. The 6x47 was pushing 105 Hyrbids.

"6mm works great for deer with proper shot placement and bullet selection " Can you expand on shot placement and bullets? Heart-Lung area, shoulder, ? Bullets? Not a hunter and wants to learn from your experiences. Thanks,

I’ll be hunting with my 6xc this year with Barnes LRX 95 gr. Lots of good bullet options.

As to where to aim....

I have shot several deer with a 243 and 6SLR and they both work very well at taking white tail deer here in ND. There big deer up here with lots of fat and heavy hide during rifle season. I've shot them out to 420yds with the 6slr using a 105 hunting vld. Most of my shots are under 200yds for deer. The rule of thumb on deer I believe is 1000ft/lbs of energy but this is a relative term, you still have to choose a decent bullet and shot placement. I've shot a bunch with 85grn softpoints and 87grn hollow point bt, 100grn soft points, etc. A 6-47 will get the job done.

My current opinion on it is a direct hit in the heart or lungs from a center fire rifle is going to kill a deer.

I don’t see any problem at all taking broadside shots with 6mm on deer from a couple hundred yards and in but it wouldn’t be my first choice at all for longer shots if the deer moves while the bullet is in the air and the bullet has to go through the shoulder to get to the vitals.
