7.62-M1A FC brass

[79M1a-texas]

Picked up a bunch of brass from the range yesterday with a head stamp “ 7.62-M1A FC 70”. It weights 177.0g compared to my Lapua 308w at 173.5g. The FC brass was being shot from a bolt gun and appears to be once fired; all the primers had the red sealant.

How does this FC brass compare to say LC LR?

It could be the new offering from Federal for the M-1A, they also make some for the Garand. I just checked my box of federal M-1A, and the head stamp says 7.62-M-1A FC 09.

How many did you pick up?

It grows like a weed and the primers fall out after 2-3 loads. If you aren't loading to max and you are careful you will be fine though.

I just weighed some FC 10 Headstamped once fired from some FGMM 175gr, and it weighs the same.

It's just standard FC brass with a different headstamp. No better, no worse. I believe the primer pockets are crimped.

If they are crimped then is it mil-spec brass?

I have some that I fired out of my M1A, cleaned, sized, trimmed, and reloaded with 168gr bullets over 41gr IMR-4895. Shot well out of my SPS Tac.
It is thicker then Winchester brass, and does have crimped primers. So you will have to have some way of removing the crimp. Not sure about loose primers since I haven't gotten around to reloading it again. I have a bunch of BHA match brass that I'm working with right now.

Yep BHA is made by Winchester. The FC brass I have won't be bothered with anymore until the BHA, Winchester Commercial, WCC, and Hornady brass I have craps out.

FC brass is soft and as said, usually not too many reloads.
