Re: 7 Rem Mag guys- What precision dies are you using?
These are my 7mmRM notes on what I have, how it measures and what I do:
<span style="font-style: italic">A) Lee collet neck die with stock mandrel 0.283", but collet, collar, and mandrel nose have been polished
B) Bonanza FL die honed out to 0.307" neck
C) RCBS neck sizing die stock neck 0.304"
D) Forster FL die stock neck 0.302"
E) RCBS FL die stock neck 0.300"
A) Bonanza sliding sleeve competition seater die with seating stem orifice de burred.
B) Lee dead length bullet seater die
C) Bonanza standard seater die
D) RCBS standard seater die
SAAMI spec on chamber neck is 0.317" to 0.319".
SAAMI spec on chamber headspace to belt is .220" to .227"
SAAM spec on pressure is 61,000 psi
The loaded ammo neck is .309 to .313", with the 180 gr VLD more likely to be .309".
The load ammo headspace to belt is .210 to .215"
The loaded ammo max pressure long life minus safety margin is 72,000 psi

Typically I reload by:
Vibrate in Walnut
Separate from media
Tumble in stainless steel media
Separate from media
Dry
de cap with Lee decapping die
put Imperial die wax on the outside of the case
Size and set back shoulder .001" with honed out to .307" FL die
Prime case
Charge case
Seat bullet with sliding sleeve seater die

I remain convinced that the 7mmRM is an optimum cartridge for me for long range hunting.
